Episode Summary
In this episode, Jia Yunying's investigation into her father's death puts her life at risk, forcing Li Heng to save her. After Wang Xiaofei is captured, his man Zhang Hui reveals Li Heng's past as a resistance fighter to save his own skin. This leads Wang Liangcheng to propose a shocking alliance with Li Heng to eliminate Lu Wenlu.

A Risky Marriage
Li Heng has a vision. He wants to bring the Pao Ge brotherhoods into the revolution. He believes he can turn the gangs into a force for good. His superior, Yu Tong, is not on board. He harshly criticizes Li Heng for marrying Lu Shufen. He says the move was reckless and put her in serious danger.
Li Heng defends his decision. He explains the situation was critical. He needed the marriage to get inside the Deqing Society. His goal is to reform it from within and use it for the cause. Yu Tong has to admit the marriage is a strategic advantage. But he still insists Li Heng must report it to the higher-ups. So for now, Li Heng can only wait for their judgment.

An Investigation and a Syringe
Shen Yihe gives Yang Deng two new orders. First, he wants Qiu He watched around the clock. Second, he wants Wang Xiaofei dead.
Wang Xiaofei is currently laid up in a safe house. He's trying to recover from his injuries. His subordinate, Zhang Hui, goes to a hospital to get him some medicine. While there, he sees Jia Yunying talking to a nurse. She's asking for her father Lu Kaide's medication records. The nurse tells her the death was suspicious. This triggers a memory for Jia Yunying. She remembers seeing a man with a limp that night. She goes outside and finds a syringe under the window.
A Hit Goes Wrong
Zhang Hui immediately reports this back to Wang Xiaofei. Wang Xiaofei's message is simple. Jia Yunying has to be silenced. That night, Jia Yunying meets with Li Heng and gives him the syringe. She also offers him a stiff congratulations on becoming the Lu family's son-in-law.
Li Heng leaves without saying much. But he doesn't go far. He follows Jia Yunying to protect her. He was right to be worried. Zhang Hui and his men ambush her. Li Heng jumps in and fights them off. The moment Zhang Hui recognizes Li Heng, he panics and runs away.

Wang Xiaofei is angry about the failed hit but knows he has to lay low. We learn that Lu Wenlu knows exactly where Wang Xiaofei is hiding. He's just letting him squirm for a while, thinking he might be a useful pawn later.
Li Heng spots An Mi getting out of a black car. He jots down the license plate number. He then tells his man, Da Kui, to find out who owns the car.
Just as Wang Xiaofei is plotting his revenge on Li Heng, his door bursts open. Tang Meng and his crew are here for him. They knock him out. To save himself, Zhang Hui starts talking. He reveals Li Heng's biggest secret. He says Li Heng is actually Xiao Si. Xiao Si was a member of the "Tiger Slaying Group," an old anti-Japanese group. Zhang Hui also lies that he saw Li Heng secretly meeting with two communists.
A History of Betrayal
Da Kui gets back to Li Heng with information. The black car belongs to Lu Wenlu. Da Kui begs Li Heng to drop it, but Li Heng secretly continues his investigation.
On the day of the funeral, Tang Meng has Zhang Hui watching the crowd. Zhang Hui sees Li Heng, and it triggers a flashback. Years ago, Tang Meng betrayed the Tiger Slaying Group. He sold out their location to the Japanese while Li Heng was away. The betrayal led to a massacre. Only Li Heng and Zhang Hui survived. Now, in the present, Zhang Hui betrays Li Heng again. He confirms for Tang Meng that the man in the crowd is who he thinks he is.

An Offer You Can't Refuse
Tang Meng takes this information directly to Wang Liangcheng. He bypasses Lu Wenlu on purpose. He wants to use this opportunity to get rid of Li Heng for good.
Later, a note is left at Li Heng's door. It's an invitation to a meeting in a private room at a restaurant. Li Heng is wary but decides to go. He enters the room and finds Wang Liangcheng waiting for him.
Wang Liangcheng lays his cards on the table. He shows Li Heng an old photograph of himself, proving he knows his real identity. With the truth out in the open, Wang Liangcheng makes his pitch. He wants Li Heng to help him kill Lu Wenlu. If they succeed, they'll split the rewards.
