Spoiler Alert
A Street Fight for a Good Cause
The episode kicks off with a bang. Li Heng needs to create a distraction. So he decides to pick a fight with Tang Meng. It’s a brilliant, if totally reckless, move. He provokes Tang Meng in a shop. The fight spills out into the street. A huge crowd gathers to watch the brawl. It gets ugly fast. It looks like someone is about to get seriously hurt.
Just in time, Jia Yunwu and his men show up. They break up the fight before it goes too far. But the whole thing was a setup. While everyone was distracted, Yu Tong quietly escorted the special commissioner to safety. Li Heng sees his plan worked. You can practically feel his relief.
The Mole Hunt Is On
After the chaos dies down, Jia Yunwu lays into Li Heng. He thinks Li Heng was just being impulsive. But Li Heng has a point. He says Tang Meng’s forces arrived way too quickly. He also insists last night's power outage was deliberate. He’s certain there is a mole inside the MTU.
Later, Li Heng formally apologizes to his boss, Shen Yihe. He says he's ready to accept any punishment. Shen Yihe seems less concerned about Li Heng and more annoyed that the BIS keeps getting involved in their business.
The Cigarette Clue
Jia Yunwu suggests they start monitoring more radio frequencies. They need to find out where the BIS is getting its information. After the meeting, Shen Yihe pulls Jia Yunwu aside. He can tell Jia is holding something back.
Jia Yunwu presents his evidence. It’s a crushed cigarette pack and a butt he found near the power station. He notes that Yang Deng smokes this brand. But anyone could have dropped it. He also brings up An Mi. She was alone in the confidential files room that night. He thinks she's a suspect. Shen Yihe immediately shoots down that theory. He refuses to believe An Mi could be a traitor.
Jia Yunwu's First Suspect
Jia Yunwu decides to follow the cigarette clue. He notices that Zhang Qingyu smells like smoke. He casually asks Zhang where he was during the power outage. Zhang gets visibly flustered. He stammers and can't give a straight answer. This just makes him look incredibly guilty.
Trouble at Home for the Jias
Things are not going well at the Jia household. The family patriarch, Jia Zhong, is listening to the radio. He hears talk about a potential peace treaty. He scoffs at the idea. He blames Chiang Kai-shek for starting the war in the first place.
Jia Yunwu overhears his father's pro-Communist remarks. He is furious. The two have a heated argument. Their political differences are driving a huge wedge between them. The tension gets worse. Jia Yunwu's son, Jia Chang'an, climbs onto the roof. Jia Yunwu completely loses his temper and starts hitting the boy.
His sister, Jia Yunying, rushes to protect her nephew. She confronts Jia Yunwu. She tells him he's never around to be a father. He's always out arresting people instead of spending time with his son. Even their father agrees. He thinks Jia Yunwu's temper is out of control.
Li Heng Makes His Move
Li Heng isn't just sitting around waiting for things to happen. He's making his own plays.
Contacting the Communists
He arranges a secret meeting with Yu Tong. He finally explains his connection to Zhou Sihai, who has died. He tells Yu Tong his whole story. Since Zhou Sihai is gone, Yu Tong can't verify his identity. He needs to report back to his superiors. He asks Li Heng to wait. Li Heng understands. But he also gives Yu Tong the intelligence that Zhou Sihai entrusted to him. He asks him to deliver it to the organization.
Turning the Tables
Back at the MTU office, Li Heng puts his own plan into motion. He tells his loyal subordinate, Da Kui, to pull the files on every MTU agent. He also wants Da Kui to secretly spy on Jia Yunwu. Da Kui is hesitant. He warns Li Heng that Jia Yunwu is dangerous.
Then we get a nice little reveal. Da Kui admits that Jia Yunwu originally ordered him to spy on Li Heng. But over time, Da Kui grew to respect Li Heng's skills and character. He declares his loyalty is now with Li Heng. This is a small win for Li Heng. He's clearly pleased. He follows Jia Yunwu himself and discovers a bug in his own office. He then confronts Jia Yunwu right in front of Shen Yihe, bug in hand.
An Alliance and a Trap
Yu Tong meets with Jia Yunying again. He asks her to find out if her father would be willing to cooperate for a peaceful resolution. She's nervous but agrees to talk to him. She confirms her father is against the civil war and convinces him to meet with a Communist representative. Jia Zhong agrees. When Jia Yunwu comes home, he can tell something is up. He worries his father is about to switch sides and they argue again.
The episode ends on a double cliffhanger. First, Qing Tian tricks Li Heng. He tells him there's trouble at the gambling den. When Li Heng arrives, he finds Lu Shufen and a crowd waiting for him. She announces that it's an important day.
At the same time, Jia Yunwu gets a tip. The BIS has set up an operation at the Hongxi Tower. He leads a team to raid the building. But just as they're about to move in, Da Kui gives him some shocking news. Jia Yunwu's father and sister are inside the Hongxi Tower.
