Episode Summary
This episode ramps up the mystery as the storyteller Fang Zhiyuan's tales seem to predict real murders. Sun Siming ruthlessly kills a spy sent to seduce him. Xu Buhuai and Hua Lei are found dead under strange circumstances, leading to rumors of supernatural killers. Fu Sheng investigates the bodies and finds clues pointing to a human killer, not a ghost. Killer Stories
Things are getting weird in the city. Rumors are flying about the storyteller, Fang Zhiyuan. His tongue is sharp enough to raise the dead. The problem is, people are actually dying. The deaths match the characters in his stories perfectly. It gives everyone the creeps.
Sun Siming deals with his own problems. Li Zhiming sent him a woman. She sits at home counting money. Sun knows she is dangerous. She is a spy. She tries to seduce him. Sun doesn't fall for it. He suffocates her right then and there. He is brutal.
The Bell Tolls
News breaks that Xu Buhuai is dead. Li Zhizhuo is thrilled at first. Then he finds out the body is right outside his own door. That wipes the smile off his face. He rings the bell to alert the whole capital.
Xu’s brother is a piece of work. He sees his wife dead at Sun Siming’s hands. He doesn't shed a tear. He just thinks about buying a new wife.
The next day, the horse gang shows up. They are angry. They blame Li Zhizhuo for their vice-general's death. The two sides argue. It gets heated. Wen Yu rushes in. He promises to find the real killer to stop the fighting.
Teahouse Confrontations
Fang Zhiyuan is back at the teahouse. He tells his stories with flair. Guests joke about his toxic mouth. They wonder who he will kill off next. Tuoba Ruo storms in with her crew. She wants answers about Xu’s murder.
Her men drag in Xu’s stableman. The guy is terrified. He says he just went to the bathroom. Xu was killed in that split second. Tuoba Ruo orders his execution immediately. Fu Sheng arrives just in time. He talks her out of it.
Fang Zhiyuan senses trouble. He tries to slip away. Fu Sheng blocks his path. He pulls out a receipt for a jade piece. Fang lies. He says it was someone else with the same name. Fu Sheng pretends to buy the lie. He walks away, but he is suspicious.
Forensics and Fingerprints
Fu Sheng and Gu Tian visit Sun Siming. They need to see the body. The next day, Fu Sheng examines Xu’s corpse. It looks like a lightning strike. But there is a heavy wound on the chest. It wasn't an accident.
Then another body drops. Li Zhizhuo’s man, Hua Lei, dies. Fu Sheng checks him out. A non-martial artist ambushed him. There is a bloody handprint on his chest. It looks like a small hand. The locals panic. They think the "little ghost" from Fang’s stories is real.
The Bandit in the West
Two murders have the city on edge. Yingying tells Feng Qianli to get to work. They gather intel. They track a bandit named Night Owl Cry to a broken house in the west.
We see Night Owl Cry cooking meat. He is a sadist. He forces his apprentice to grab the meat from boiling water with bare hands. The kid screams. Gu Tian, Fu Sheng, and Wen Yu arrive. They set traps. It takes some effort, but they catch the bandit.
Fu Sheng interrogates him. He demands to know how he killed Xu. Night Owl Cry cracks. He says he didn't do it. He claims Hua Lei was in a shady deal. A man in black ambushed Hua Lei. The man knocked Hua Lei off his horse. Night Owl Cry only checked the pulse. He got scared and ran.
