The Doctor is In (and So is the Corruption)
Fu Sheng Gets the Green Light
We start with some good news for our lead. Fu Sheng’s dad finally stops worrying. He used to think his son was too hot-headed to practice medicine alone. But Fu Sheng proved his skills. He is famous now. So, Dad gives him permission to work.
This makes Fu Sheng the perfect person to investigate the murders. Magistrate Yang agrees to let him help. But there is a catch. Yang wants someone to watch Fu Sheng. Wen Yu steps up for the job. Gu Tian also volunteers to help carry the medical box. He has his own agenda. He wants to see if the mysterious Jade Disk is hidden inside that box.
A Trail of Bodies
Ruan Changfeng is on a rampage. His men are tearing through doctors' houses looking for the Jade Disk. They don't just search. They kill entire families. They wipe out the Zhang family first.
Fu Sheng finds a clue at the clinic. A pot of medicine smells wrong. His dad bought these herbs from outside, but the scent changed. Fu Sheng heads to the East Market to track down the supplier.
Gu Tian realizes Ruan Changfeng is a butcher. He races to the Liu family clinic to warn them. He is too late. Ruan already killed them. Gu Tian knows he needs to protect his own people. He sends his brother away to safety. Then he decides to stop playing defense. He wants to attack.
Bandits, Real and Fake
At the East Market, a merchant claims bandits stole his herbs. Fu Sheng, Gu Tian, and Wen Yu go to the road to wait for these thieves. They try to talk. The bandits attack immediately.
Gu Tian spots something. The leader fights just like Ruan Changfeng. It is him in disguise.
Suddenly, a real bandit named Zhao Sihu shows up. Ruan runs away. Zhao actually knows Fu Sheng. They are old friends. Fu Sheng treats Zhao with acupuncture right there on the road. Zhao grabs the fake bandits for interrogation. He also returns a medical book to Fu Sheng as a thank you.
The Trap and the Twist
Gu Tian asks Fu Sheng for the Jade Disk. Before they can argue, Ruan storms the yard. He wants the disk. He admits he killed the doctors and their families.
He tries to grab Fu Sheng. Fu Sheng triggers a hidden needle in his medical box. Ruan drops unconscious. It turns out Gu Tian and Fu Sheng planned this whole thing. They set a trap and Ruan walked right into it.
They drag Ruan to the county office. He confesses to the murders. But then he flashes a badge. He works for Prince Jibei. This terrifies Magistrate Yang. He unties Ruan immediately. Even Wen Yu is scared of the Prince's power.
The Magistrate Shows His Teeth
Fu Sheng accuses Ruan of stealing poison. Ruan shows the stolen goods. It isn't poison. This leaves Fu Sheng’s father’s death as a mystery again.
Magistrate Yang begs Ruan to leave Fu Sheng alone. Ruan just glares at him. He hints that he knows about Yang’s illegal income. Yang plays the coward. He gives Ruan all his hoarded gold and silver. He serves Ruan tea.
Ruan drinks it and dies.
Yang poisoned him. The cowardly act was a lie. Yang reveals his true face. He says he is the King of this town. No one touches his money.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate’s wife is in bad shape. She has a fever and is in a coma after her C-section. People start whispering that Fu Sheng harmed her on purpose. The wife wakes up with one thought. She wants Fu Sheng dead.
