The Envoy Gets a Companion

The Tiemo Envoy finally makes it to the entrance of the Chen Family Valley. Fang Genghui is stuck babysitting him the whole way. Yang Chuhao’s people try to smooth things over by sending a musician to entertain the group. The Envoy takes one look at her and likes what he sees. He finds her delicate features charming. He immediately revokes her slave status. But there is a catch. She has to stay by his side for the rest of the trip.

The Man in the Sewer

Prime Minister Gao looks pathetic these days. He spends his time as a prisoner on a small wheeled cart. He scoots around the palace and refills oil lamps. The Tiger Guard watches his every move. A servant drops by and hands him two steamed buns. Gao exchanges a few quick words. He moves his cart to a quiet corner. He waits for the guards on the wall to look away.

He tosses the buns into a manhole. A figure is curled up in the darkness below. The man reaches up desperately. He grabs the crumbs and shoves them into his mouth. It is Gu Yu. Yan Fengshan has turned the city upside down looking for him. He dug three feet into the ground outside. He never guessed his target was hiding under a manhole cover right inside the palace.

A Tense Lunch Break

Yang Chuhao is just trying to enjoy some wontons at a street stall. Then Xie Huaian shows up alone. Yang almost has a heart attack. He knows he is dead if Yan Fengshan sees them together. Xie gets straight to business. He reminds Yang about his past membership in the Liu party. He wants Yang to pay for those old sins. The price is simple. Yang must lead the Tiemo Envoy to a specific location. No one else is allowed near it.

Yang knows this is a suicide mission. He tries to wiggle out of it. He threatens to go to Yan Fengshan and confess everything first. He claims he does not care who dies first.

The Leverage

Xie Huaian calls his bluff. He knows Yang is too comfortable to throw his life away. Xie lays it out. He spent ten years on the run. He was framed and beaten. He lost his beloved sister. He has nothing left to lose. Yang is rich and has a big family. He cannot afford to gamble. Xie has him cornered. Yang asks if this is the end of the demands. Xie says he does not want any more unnecessary killing. He bows and leaves. He trusts Yang will do the right thing to save his own skin.

Young Love and Bad Math

Yang Chuhao has a son who grew up sheltered. The kid is simple and honest. His main job is collecting rent from the family shops. He heads to a medicine shop to settle the accounts. The female owner is stunning. The boy is totally smitten. He tries to help the staff calculate the bill. He is so distracted that he messes up the math. Yang looks at the books later and spots the error. He realizes his son has a crush. He hears the girl is proud and ignores status. Yang decides he needs to go see this girl for himself in a few days.
