Episode Summary

Cen Jin successfully rescues Li Wu from his exploitative relatives by threatening legal action. She brings him back to the city, despite her mother's strong objections regarding her impending divorce. Li Wu moves into Cen Jin's apartment and tries to adjust to city life, while Cen Jin has a painful run-in with her soon-to-be ex-husband and a female "client."

Escape from the Village

Secretary Cheng wakes Cen Jin up with some urgent news. Li Wu stood outside her door all night. But he isn't there anymore. His uncle dragged him back home to force him into construction work. Cen Jin rushes to the aunt’s house. The place is chaotic.

Cen Jin sees Li Wu is standing his ground. She steps in. She tells the family she is taking Li Wu to Yi City for school. She offers a deal. She won't sue them for spending the sponsorship money on themselves. She will even pay them the exact amount Li Wu would earn at the construction site. The uncle complains the money is too low. Cen Jin changes tactics. She pulls out her phone to call a lawyer. She threatens to sue for embezzlement of the inheritance and tuition. The uncle knows he will lose. He agrees to let the boy go.

Goodbyes and Graves

Cen Jin helps Li Wu pack. She realizes she never actually asked if he wanted to come. He is very grateful. He promises to pay her back for everything in the future. They head to the car. The aunt runs out at the last second. She slips Li Wu some money. She tells him to study hard. She warns him to never come back to Yunfeng Village.

Li Wu asks for a few minutes. He runs to his grandfather’s grave. He kowtows to the tombstone. He remembers his grandfather's hopes for him. This cements his decision. He is leaving this place for good.

The Silent Guardian

Cen Jin falls asleep in the car before they leave. Li Wu stands outside the door. He uses his body to block the hot sun from hitting her face. She sleeps for hours. He stands there the entire afternoon without making a sound.

They arrive in Yi City after dark. Cen Jin realizes they missed dinner. She buys some bread at a convenience store. Her phone rings. It’s her mother. Mom went to Wu Fu’s house and saw none of Cen Jin’s things. The jig is up. Cen Jin admits they are getting a divorce. She also mentions she brought Li Wu back from the village. Her mom is furious. She thinks Cen Jin’s life is a mess and she shouldn't be helping strangers. Cen Jin snaps back. Her dad started this sponsorship. She can't just watch the kid suffer.

New Roommates

Li Wu hears the entire argument from the car. He pretends he heard nothing. Cen Jin has nowhere else to put him. She takes him to her apartment. She orders takeout for dinner. She sets the ground rules. He must get into a top-tier "211" university. She gives him the spare bedroom and the guest bathroom.

Her friend Chun Chang calls. Cen Jin mentions the student. Chun Chang can't talk long because her own mother is nagging her about matchmaking. That night, Li Wu gets sick. He keeps running to the bathroom. The rich city food gave him diarrhea. Cen Jin finds him some medicine. The next morning, she orders takeout again. Li Wu suggests he should cook instead. Cen Jin agrees.

Awkward Encounters

Cen Jin goes out to buy fruit. She spots Wu Fu in a restaurant. He is with a strange woman. Cen Jin walks in and sits at their table. Wu Fu claims the woman is a client. Cen Jin tries to help entertain her. Wu Fu shuts it down. He says he doesn't need her help maintaining clients. He coldly reminds her they don't work at the same company anymore. The air gets heavy. The woman feels the tension and finds an excuse to leave.
