Man's Inhumanity to Man Episode 11 Recap
The Perfect Shot and The General
We start with a rare moment of calm. Yukio Kojima knows his way around a camera. He guides Ryohei Arakawa through taking a family portrait for Tong Changfu. It looks professional. Arakawa thanks the family, but he admits something personal. He envies them. He misses his own home.
Things move fast for Ryuichi Shiozawa. He expected a confrontation with Colonel Sasaki. That didn't happen. Director Amakasu stepped in and smoothed the way. This opens a massive door. Shiozawa and Kojima finally get a face-to-face meeting with Shiro Ishii.
Playing the Long Game
Minister Nakadome escorts Kojima into the room. Shiozawa gets left in the hallway. Ishii plays the gracious host, but he keeps his guard up. He refuses to drink the wine. He says he will save it for the victory celebration. Ishii has an ego. He believes Kojima’s documentary will show the military his "good intentions." He wants validation.
Arakawa takes a huge risk in the darkroom. He develops photos of the Chinese victims' remains. Akihiko Takahashi almost walks in on him. It is a terrifying near-miss. Arakawa hides the evidence just in time. Later, Kojima takes the lead at a staff meeting.
Arakawa slips out during the presentation. He climbs through a laundry room window. He hides a razor blade inside some clothes. Back in the meeting, Kojima sells his pitch. The high command buys it. They agree to let him film inside the labs to dispel "rumors." Kojima is lying to their faces. He frames this as propaganda to help them. In reality, he plans to expose their crimes.
The Paint Is Still Wet
Nakadome assigns Captain Oda and Takahashi to watch the film crew. They go to the Square Building. Oda acts as a gatekeeper. He blocks Kojima from the real action. He steers the crew to a temporary lab instead. Kojima spots the deception immediately. The paint on the walls is still wet. This is a set. Karasawa and Oda claim it is for safety. Kojima doesn't push back. He knows he can break Karasawa later.
Arakawa needs to get away. He fakes a migraine and says he needs medication from the dorms. He heads straight for the Square Building. Kojima creates his own opening. He asks for a bathroom break. He sneaks his camera out and snaps photos of human specimens in jars.
The two men run into each other in the hallway. They realize they are partners in this heist. Arakawa whispers a plan. He tells Kojima to ask for Building 7. Kojima tries, but Oda ignores him. Oda marches them to the courtyard of Building 8. Prisoners walk out for the camera. Kojima sees Kazuo Narita among them. The whole thing is a staged performance.
The Distraction
Kojima needs to buy Arakawa time. He sends Arakawa away to fetch a tripod and a recorder. Arakawa sprints off. He uses his keys to access the Building 7 courtyard. Narita spots him. He sees Arakawa hiding. Narita feels guilt over his past actions and stays quiet. He protects his friend.
Arakawa enters the prison block in Building 7. He searches the cells. He finds prisoner 909. He delivers a crucial message.
Outside, Kojima stalls Oda. He chats about movies and acting. Oda loves the attention, but his patience wears thin. Arakawa is taking too long. Oda decides to go look for him. Kojima tries to stop him, but Oda brushes past. Disaster looms. Suddenly, Arakawa runs back. He is out of breath. He claims he couldn't find the gear. Oda buys the lie. He orders them to get back to filming.
