Episode Summary
Lin Yusen and Nie Xiguang solidify their relationship after the banquet, and Lin reveals his plan to eventually return to medicine. He shares his backstory and embarrassing college photos with her. Meanwhile, Grandpa Sheng punishes Sheng Xingjie and gifts his shares of the company to Lin Yusen. This panics Sheng Bokai and Nie Chengyuan, who realize their plan to sell the company is in jeopardy, leading them to plot new schemes involving a project in Suzhou.

The Banquet Aftermath
The birthday banquet drama didn't end at the dinner table. Lin Yusen pulls Nie Xiguang aside for some fresh air before things really kick off. She stood up for him earlier. That clearly gave him a confidence boost. He kisses her. It’s their first time being this public with their affection. It feels good.
He also drops some truth on her. He tells her not to worry about his career path. He has zero interest in staying in the business world forever. His plan is simple. He wants to get the Shuangyuan company back on its feet. Once that’s done, he’s hanging up his suit and going back to being a doctor.
A Cold Walk and a "Smooth" Move
Jiang Ping calls his wife with an update. Xiguang isn't coming home to Wuxi with him. She has her own driver now. He warns her to be home by midnight, though.
Xiguang and Lin Yusen meet up again. They skip food and walk along the Huangpu River instead. It’s freezing. Lin has had a few drinks, but he claims he’s sober. He promises to handle all the drinking at their future social events. Well, except for one specific wedding banquet. He can’t drink for her at that one.
Since he lives nearby, he invites her up. The excuse is that he wants to show her childhood photos. It’s a classic move.
The Bowl Cut Reveal
Back at his apartment, Lin is prepared. He bought snacks she likes. He actually paid attention during their last business trip. Xiguang ignores the food. She wants to see those photos.
She raids his study. No cute baby pictures. She only finds photos from his college days. He is sporting a tragic bowl cut hairstyle in them. Lin explains the baby photos are at his grandparents' old house in the country. He promises to take her there eventually.
A class schedule falls out of a book. His college days were packed. He reveals he actually planned to study business originally. Life events forced him to change his mind.
Lin Yusen’s Origin Story
Xiguang wants the full story. Lin opens up. After his father died, the Sheng family pushed him toward business school. He chose medicine just to spite them. He cut ties with the family for years.
Then came the car accident. He had to pivot. He joined the company at the bottom level. Sheng Xingjie tried to make his life miserable. Lin outsmarted him and built his own network. That’s how he ended up running Shuangyuan. But the corporate life isn't for him. Helping out at Tianchi Hospital recently confirmed it. He wants to save lives.
He mentions a professor from his study abroad days. This guy is working on brain-computer interfaces. He wants Lin to join the team. Xiguang is fully on board. She wants him to do what makes him happy.
Grandpa Drops a Bomb
The fallout from the birthday party hits the Sheng family hard. Grandpa Sheng is furious. He tears into Sheng Bokai and his wife. Sheng Xingjie gets put in timeout—literally sent to reflect on his mistakes.
Lin plans to go shopping with Xiguang, but Grandpa summons him. Xiguang goes shopping alone.
Lin heads to the main house. Grandpa asks about the factory expansion in Guangzhou. Lin explains his plan to save cash flow. Grandpa loves it. He decides to give Lin all the shares of Shuangyuan. Lin tries to refuse. He brings up his medical dreams again. Grandpa doesn't care. He says Lin can do medicine and still own the shares. He needs some assets to his name at thirty.
The Schemers Panic
Sheng Bokai hears about the share transfer. He freaks out. He calls Nie Chengyuan immediately. He blames Nie for not controlling his daughter. He thinks Xiguang helped Lin steal the spotlight.
Nie Chengyuan is clueless. He didn't even know Xiguang was at the party. This ruins their plan. They wanted to sell off the company and cash out. If Lin holds the shares, they can't sell. Bokai tells Nie to hold his ground.
There is one more piece of news. Sheng Xingjie is being sent to Suzhou to manage a digital project. Bokai asks Nie to pull some strings and manipulate things from the shadows.
Nie hangs up, clearly annoyed. His wife, Qian Fangping, tells him to rest. He snaps at her. She can't help him with business, and he's stressed. She just apologizes for her niece's behavior again.
