The Late Night Stakeout

This episode feels like a bottle episode. The action centers on Hong Fu’s food stall late at night. Four massive guys walk in looking for a meal. Miao Miao is watching the news in the corner. She sees a report about four suspects wanted for robbing a bank. She looks at the customers. She puts two and two together. She is convinced these guys are the criminals.

A plainclothes officer walks in for a bite. Hong Fu tries to signal him for help. He fails miserably. The cop accidentally drops his ID badge on the floor. One of the big guys picks it up. He hands it back. Then he asks the cop where he can buy a gun. That is a massive red flag. The cop realizes something is wrong. He quietly tells Miao Miao to pack some food and deliver it to the police station. He needs backup.

A Brawl in the Dark

Miao Miao doesn't even make it out the door. The power cuts out. The cop takes his chance. He tackles the man who asked about the gun. The other three men jump in to help their friend. Hong Fu rushes in to help the cop.

It turns into a total free-for-all. A Ting and A Fei are eating nearby. They jump into the fray to help the police. Wu Sheng is there eating a late-night snack alone. He joins the fight too. A photographer walks in from the street. He sees the chaos. He doesn't ask questions. He just starts punching the bad guys. It is a mess of flying fists and broken furniture.

How They Got Here

The show pauses the action to explain who these people are. A Ting and A Fei are from Hong Kong. They were classmates back in the day. They haven't seen each other in years. A Ting is an engineer working on commercial real estate in Shenzhen. A Fei is in the trade business. She wants to sell Shenzhen-made jeans to the world. They actually live right next door to each other. They kept missing each other until tonight. They finally met up at the stall right before the fight started.

We also see how this place started. We go back one year. Miao Miao came to Shenzhen to work in a garment factory. The factory was full. She had no money and nowhere to go. Hong Fu is from Shaanxi. He opened this roadside stall. He was terrible at making rice noodles. A customer got angry about the food. Miao Miao stepped in and fixed the dish. The customer loved it. Hong Fu hired her on the spot. They combined their skills. They named the shop "Red Dust 3000 Miles."

Then there is Wu Sheng. We see him two years ago. He left his opera troupe after 15 years. He said a painful goodbye to his girlfriend. She plays the Daomadan role in the opera. He swore he would make it in Shenzhen. He left home and became a taxi driver.

The Big Reveal

Back in the present, the fight ends. The dust settles. The cop realizes he messed up. It was a huge misunderstanding. The four "robbers" are actually employees of the Shenzhen Anda Security Transport Company. The bag didn't have stolen cash. It was full of lion dance props. They just started the first security transport company in the city. They had zero experience. They just bumped into the cop at the worst possible time.

Where Are They Now?

The photographer takes a group picture of everyone to commemorate the weird night. Hong Fu and Miao Miao cook up a feast of noodles for the whole group.

Then we get a massive time jump to the year 2025. Wu Sheng is back on the stage. He teaches new students about opera. A Fei and A Ting run a successful architecture design firm. The security company became a giant in the financial industry. Hong Fu and Miao Miao did well too. They own six restaurants now. They go to a photo studio for their 25th anniversary. The photographer is the same guy who helped them fight in the food stall all those years ago.
