Spoiler Alert
A Hero Falls
We start this one on a grim note. Wan Guoxin is dead inside a car. Not far away, the police find Cui Hao’s body too. He was the suspect Wan was tracking at the hospital. The initial read on the scene looks like a murder-suicide. It seems Cui stabbed Wan, and Wan managed to shoot Cui before dying.
Qi Sizhe isn't buying it. He looks at the bodies and the distance between them. The physics don't work.
Then Zhu Qingyue arrives. This scene is tough to watch. Wan wasn't just a colleague. He was her late brother's partner. He looked out for her like family. She sees the body and completely breaks down. Han Feng doesn't know what to say. He just stands there and pats her shoulder. It is a quiet, sad moment before the work begins.
The Evidence Doesn't Lie
The team has to push through the grief. Su Huaining finds a scalpel on Wan’s body. Li Xiaoxi checks the surveillance tapes. She confirms Wan definitely visited the First People's Hospital.
Qi Sizhe figures out the car location is staged. It isn't the primary crime scene. Han Feng goes hunting for the real spot. He finds it. Su locates a tire hidden in the grass. Gao Yuan sprays Luminol on the back seat of the car. It lights up. There is a massive amount of blood back there.
Betrayal on the Road
Back at the station, the autopsy results come in. Wan died from a severed artery in his thigh caused by a scalpel. Cui died from a gunshot wound from Wan’s service weapon.
We get some background on Cui. He managed drug inventory at the hospital. He had access to ether and cedilanid. These match the drugs found in previous victims like Li Yiqi and Wang Chen. Police also found a stash of similar meds at Cui’s house.
Qi Sizhe drops a new theory. A third person was there. Han Feng backs him up. He found puncture marks on that tire in the grass.
Here is what really happened. Wan was driving Cui back to the station. The tire blew out because of a trap. Wan got out to check. A killer on a motorbike rammed him. The killer took Wan’s gun. Wan tried to tell Cui to run. But Cui was in on it. He grabbed Wan from behind. The biker killed Wan while he was immobilized. Then the biker shot Cui to silence him. Wan died trying to protect a traitor.
The Doctor Runs
The investigation shifts to Dr. Chen Chuchuan. Gao Yuan analyzes the prescriptions Chen wrote. Four of them link directly to the new illegal drug. Li Xiaoxi also spots a man with a neck tattoo on the hospital security footage. He was stalking Wan.
Qi Sizhe realizes Chen is the next loose end. The killer will come for him. Han Feng takes off to intercept Chen, who is heading for the border.
Chen is in bad shape. He is high on the new drug. He starts hallucinating. We see a flashback of him arguing with Hu Jie. She admitted she triggered Fan Jiangxue’s allergy on purpose. Chen snapped. He stabbed Hu Jie with a steel pen.
Back in the car, Chen is losing it. He sees Fan Jiangxue in the passenger seat. He apologizes to the vision. He claims he didn't mean to kill her. He tried to perform emergency aid during her allergic reaction, but the pen slipped.
The man with the neck tattoo catches up to Chen. He gets Chen into his vehicle. It looks like a rescue, but it isn't. The tattoo man stabs Chen to death right there in the car.
