Episode 5 Recap

A Blast from the Past

We start with a trip down memory lane to 2002. It’s a simpler time involving hotpot and heavy conversations. Qin Feng, Old Mai, and Hu Xiaoyue are digging into the details of the Xu Li case. The facts are messy. Xu Li got drunk and was supposedly picked up by a relative. But all fingers point to her teacher as a major suspect. The guys realize Xu Li was terrified of a specific man. They have a sketch of him. If they find the guy in the drawing, they crack the case.

High Rollers and Low Blows

Back in the present, the police are running a sting operation. They dress up as wealthy foreign businessmen and strut into a suburban casino. It’s a classic undercover play. Qin Feng and his team secure the perimeter and block the exits. Inside, Old Mai and a buddy scope out the joint. They spot someone getting beaten up and overhear talk of a "black prison."

Old Mai decides to get creative. He starts a brawl on purpose. The goal is simple. He wants to get thrown into that black prison to see what’s really going on inside.

The Raid

Qin Feng gets the signal from Mai and moves in. The criminals panic and try to scatter, but the police net is already tight. Inside the makeshift prison, a thug named Scar recognizes Old Mai immediately. He knows Mai is a cop. Scar tries to evacuate the place, but he isn't fast enough.

Qin Feng follows the trail Mai left behind. He fights his way through the guards and breaches the prison. It’s a solid win. They manage to rescue Wang Ming, who was working as an informant for Hu Xiaoyue.

Breakfast and Buried Hatchets

The next morning, Ye Tianyou meets Old Mai at a breakfast joint. They share a cab ride to the station. Ye Tianyou pulls a fast one. He pretends his eyes are failing him and asks Mai to read a text message from "Shiniang" (their master's wife).

This breaks the ice. Mai still holds a grudge because Ye pulled him off the Xu Li investigation. Ye finally drops the act. He explains that the dark forces behind the case are way more complex than Mai realized. He was protecting him. Mai realizes he had his boss all wrong.

The Informant Speaks

Wang Ming is hesitant at first. He doesn't trust Qin Feng. But once he learns Qin is Hu Xiaoyue’s junior, he spills the beans. Wang Ming got exposed while investigating fake police officers. He only survived this long because he has leverage.

He claims to have a video. It’s explosive stuff. The footage allegedly shows police leadership plotting with the criminal Luo Bo to kill Hu Xiaoyue. Wang Ming wants to play this video in front of the brass to expose the corruption.

The Mole Strikes

Ye Tianyou calls an emergency meeting. He takes everyone's phones to prevent leaks. Qin Feng brings Wang Ming into the room. Wang explains he hid the memory card with the video inside a centralized switch box at his apartment.

Even with the phone ban, word gets out. Someone in that room is dirty. Wang Tao rushes to Wang Ming’s place to retrieve the evidence. He is too late. The door is pryed open. The place is trashed. The memory card is gone. Back at the station, leadership argues that Wang Ming is lying. But others know better. The leak is real.

Hu Xiaoyue’s Final Play

Qin Feng checks the surveillance at Wang Ming’s complex. The power was cut right before the break-in. This confirms an inside job.

Ye Tianyou decides it is time to come clean with Qin Feng. He plays a video recorded by Hu Xiaoyue right before his death. Hu knew Luo Bo had him cornered. He knew he couldn't dig any deeper. This tape is his legacy. Ye Tianyou reveals he has been following Hu’s instructions. Now, he needs Qin Feng to pick up the torch and keep the performance going to catch the real villains.
