Spoiler Alert
A Moment of Kindness
The episode kicks off with Yi Yi at the factory. We get a little insight into her life there. She has a coworker she’s friendly with. It turns out this coworker has a tough home life. Her mother-in-law was obsessed with having a grandson. This led to her having four daughters in a row. She finally had a boy on the fifth try, but the process left her sick. Now she has five kids she can't afford to feed.
Yi Yi sees this and steps up. She takes the coworker and all her hungry kids out for a proper meal. It’s a small scene, but it says a lot about who Yi Yi is.
A Fever and a Showdown
The Sickness
Things get messy after Wen Pu has a fight with Lao Zhao. He heads home by himself, gets caught in a nasty downpour, and comes down with a serious fever. Lao Zhao finds him burning up but Wen Pu just shuts himself in his room. Worried about his friend, Lao Zhao does the only thing he can think of. He goes to get Yi Yi.
The Confrontation
Yi Yi shows up to take care of the very sick Wen Pu. She gives him some water and puts a cool towel on his forehead. It's all very standard sick-day stuff.
Then, Director Fang walks in. This is where the drama really starts.
Fang pulls Yi Yi into the study and does not hold back. She tells Yi Yi that she isn't a suitable match for a man like Wen Pu. She calls her a "bourgeois" girl chasing romantic fantasies. It’s a pretty brutal verbal attack.
Yi Yi is hurt, but she doesn't crumble. Director Fang keeps pushing, asking her directly if she has feelings for Wen Pu. Yi Yi decides to just own it. She confesses that seeing Wen Pu is like seeing a "beam of light" and that it's a "high-level enjoyment" for her.
Just as Fang is processing this shocking admission, she opens the study door. And who is standing there? Wen Pu. He heard every single word.
Instead of getting angry, he looks at Yi Yi with total gratitude. He then turns to Director Fang and tells her straight up: he wants to build a family with Yi Yi.
The Official Aftermath
An Investigation and Love Letters
Because Wen Pu is a commissar, things aren't simple. The organization has to launch a full background investigation into Yi Yi's family.During this period, they are forbidden from seeing each other.
So, Wen Pu starts writing letters to her. We see Yi Yi reading them with a huge smile on her face. This is how their romance officially begins.
There's also a quick side story with Zhou Yunqing. She works for Wen Pu and feels awkward about his new relationship. Wen Pu handles it like a pro. He talks to her directly and even invites her and Yi Yi to visit Zhao Yuan's grave with him. Zhou Yunqing is so moved that her entire opinion of him changes.
A Case of Mistaken Identity
The investigation hits a potential snag. A name, Qiao Xiaolan, comes up. This person has a questionable background and claims to have connections to Yi Yi.
The organization sets up a face-to-face meeting. The moment Yi Yi sees this Qiao Xiaolan, she knows it's a mistake. This isn't her old classmate. It turns out the "Miss Yi" this woman knows is a completely different person.
With the misunderstanding cleared, Yi Yi's background is officially declared clean.
But Director Fang isn't quite done. She has one last talk with Yi Yi. This time, her tone is more of a warning. She tells Yi Yi that even with a clean record, her family's status could still create problems for Wen Pu's political career.
This conversation gets into Yi Yi's head. She starts to feel anxious and shares her worries with Wen Pu. He makes his position clear. He understands the risks and the problems they might face. But he tells her he has no major political ambitions. All he wants is a simple, ordinary life with her.
