Episode Summary
In this episode, Ye Xining turns a potential disaster with ruined jeans into a massive success through clever redesign and marketing. A Boss in Trouble
The episode kicks off with Xiang Beichuan visiting his boss, Yan Jun. Yan Jun’s factory is losing money. But he still cuts Xiang Beichuan a check for 10,000 yuan. Xiang Beichuan doesn't want to take it. Yan Jun already paid off his 60,000 yuan school debt. Yan Jun insists, though. He says bosses should treat their employees well, even when things are tough. He wants them to team up and make some real money.
From Trash to Treasure
Over at Director Lu’s factory, there’s a disaster. A rainstorm soaked a huge batch of jeans. The dye ran everywhere, ruining the fabric. Director Lu is heartbroken. He thinks about donating them, but they aren't exactly practical for a disaster zone.
Ling Jie has a simple idea. She suggests selling them to the kids at the disco downstairs. But Ye Xining thinks bigger. She suggests they hire some dyeing experts. They can use a stonewash technique to completely redesign the jeans. This would turn them into a hot new style. Director Lu loves this plan. He gets his technical guys on the phone right away.
The redesigned jeans look even better than the originals. Ling Jie suggests they sell them at a stall in the busiest market. She and Ye Xining set up shop together. Ling Jie even pretends to be a customer to build some buzz. It works. They sell fifty pairs in a single day.
A Tense Dinner
An Unwanted Offer
Director Lu is ecstatic. The jeans he almost threw away are making a profit. He takes Ye Xining out for a celebratory dinner. It just so happens that Yan Jun and Xiang Beichuan are at the same restaurant.
Yan Jun’s warehouse is full of unsold products. He hears about Ye Xining’s incredible sales talent. He asks Director Lu if Ye Xining could come work for him. He even suggests a trade for Xiang Beichuan. Director Lu shuts him down immediately. He says Ye Xining is now essential to his factory.
A Dirty Trick in the Car
Later, Yan Jun gives Ye Xining and Xiang Beichuan a ride home. Yan Jun clearly has a crush on Ye Xining. He wants to make Xiang Beichuan look bad. So, he pretends to be drunk. He starts telling stories about Xiang Beichuan. He claims Xiang Beichuan had affairs with multiple female students. He says it was a huge scandal all over campus.
Xiang Beichuan is in the car and hears all of it. He’s speechless. He knows it’s a complete lie. He decides to just treat it like a bad joke. He calmly walks Ye Xining back to her dorm without making a scene.
The Big Fashion Show
A Risky Plan
Ye Xining hears about a well-known club that big-name guests always go to. She sees an opportunity. She suggests that the factory should host a fashion show there to build the brand's reputation.
Director Lu agrees and goes all out. He hires a lot of models for a huge show. He’s also worried he’s just throwing money away. But after the show, Ye Xining walks right up to two overseas Chinese guests. They immediately place an order for more than one hundred thousand dollars. Director Lu is stunned. He’s more impressed with Ye Xining than ever.
The Customs Problem
The time comes to deliver the big order. This means they have to file a declaration with customs. Director Lu learns the customs officer, Shan Huaqing, went to the same school as Ye Xining. He gives the job to her.
Ye Xining prepares everything perfectly. She creates a brilliant report and even dresses up for the meeting. But Shan Huaqing is cold and dismissive. He’s rude and won't listen to her.
Just then, Xiang Beichuan arrives. He's holding a file folder. Inside is a school admission notice for Shan Huaqing’s child. Xiang Beichuan pulled some strings to solve a problem for him. Shan Huaqing’s attitude does a complete 180. He becomes friendly and promises to process all the paperwork within two days.
