"Love in Pavilion" Episode 5: Recap & Spoilers

Okay, so things are getting interesting! Ever since Wangquan Shouzhuo vanished – along with the real Wangquan Sword – Wangquan Hongye has been running around with a fake. During that big fight with Nangong Ye, the phony sword actually gets a chip in it! Fei, the head steward, is scrambling to forge a new one, hoping the other clan leaders won't notice the difference. Speaking of clan leaders, everyone except the Nangong family head shows up for a meeting. Fei, acting on behalf of Wangquan Hongye, announces a ban on using demon cores to forge swords from here on out.

Meanwhile, Mu Xiaowu is pulling an all-nighter, kneeling outside the Yang family home. Yang Yitan feels bad and pleads with his grandpa, Yang Huanzhou (the head of the Yang family), to show some mercy. But Yang Huanzhou isn't impressed with Mu Xiaowu's low social status. He orders his son, Yang Ying, to find someone to... well, let's just say "take care of" Yang Yan's pregnancy. Yang Yitan isn't having it. He's not letting anyone lay a hand on his aunt, so he joins Mu Xiaowu in kneeling outside.

Yang Ying tries to talk some sense into Yang Huanzhou, reminding him that the Yang family doesn't have many with the Sky Eye ability, and that Yang Yitan's marriage is a respectable cover for the family. Just then, Wangquan Hongye shows up at the Yang residence, offering to be Mu Xiaowu's matchmaker! He even brings a whole chest of betrothal gifts and has a lucky date picked out for the wedding – just a month away! Mu Xiaowu, following Wangquan Hongye's lead, offers tea to Yang Huanzhou. Yang Huanzhou counters with a proposal: Mu Xiaowu has to move in and become a live-in son-in-law for the Yang family. After a moment's hesitation, Mu Xiaowu agrees.

Over at the Dongfang household, Dongfang Qinlan is teasing Dongfang Huaizhu about her upcoming meeting with the masked Sword Gentleman on the Double Seventh Festival. Jin Renfeng, the top disciple of the Shenhuo Mountain Manor, is back. He's got a major crush on Dongfang Huaizhu, but she's not interested. Wangquan Zui is helping Wangquan Hongye pick out clothes, and she's clearly a fan of Dongfang Huaizhu. She's really looking forward to the moment when Wangquan Hongye finally takes off his mask and faces her.

At the Huaishui Bamboo Pavilion, Dongfang Huaizhu and the Sword Gentleman finally meet. They take to the skies, throwing out divine fire and controlling it with a sword. They're having a blast! Dongfang Huaizhu isn't even curious about what the Sword Gentleman looks like under the mask. The time and opportunity aren't right to remove the mask, so Wangquan Hongye keeps it on the whole time.

Wangquan Zui is still stressing about her brother's love life. Yang Yitan reminds her that Yang Yan and Mu Xiaowu's wedding is in a month, and Dongfang Huaizhu is bound to show up. At the wedding, Dongfang Qinlan notices Wangquan Hongye giving Dongfang Huaizhu some serious looks. She tries to keep them apart and subtly reminds Wangquan Hongye that Dongfang Huaizhu is already taken. Dongfang Qinlan even brings up the masked leader of the Mask Gang, the Sword Gentleman, making it clear she's a huge fan.

Wangquan Zui isn't giving up. She plans to engineer a "chance" encounter between Dongfang Huaizhu and Wangquan Hongye when Dongfang Huaizhu goes out to buy jewelry the next day. She even drugs some candied hawthorns (tanghulu) and gives them to Dongfang Qinlan to keep her out of the way. Everything goes according to plan... until Dongfang Qinlan wakes up way earlier than expected and ruins the whole thing! A Taoist priest hands Wangquan Hongye an umbrella, and Wangquan Zui, hiding nearby, uses a wind and rain talisman. But instead of a gentle shower, she summons a downpour! Wangquan Hongye gets soaked, and Dongfang Qinlan makes sure to rub it in.

The Dongfang sisters arrive at the Ruyi Pavilion, and guess who else shows up? Wangquan Hongye, still dripping wet! But even in that state, he's managing to attract the attention of the ladies around him.
