Spoiler Alert
A Festival Confession
The episode kicks off with Feng Suige and Fu Yixiao out on the town. There's a festival with molten iron fireworks. It's a pretty great backdrop for what happens next. Feng Suige tells Fu Yixiao that she was the first person who ever promised to protect him. He says he's happy he met her.
This is basically a confession. You know it. I know it. But Fu Yixiao gets a little flustered. She thinks he's just emotional because his sister, Feng Xiyang, is getting married. She deflects and tells him to save those words for his own wedding night. He agrees, but it feels like he's making a promise directly to her.
Then, a kid bumps into Fu Yixiao. She stumbles. Feng Suige catches her and just holds her for a long moment. He doesn't let go.
The Worst Wedding Night Ever
Speaking of weddings, Feng Xiyang's is a total disaster. She waits for her new husband, Xia Jingshi, to make a move. He does nothing. Absolutely nothing. So, she takes matters into her own hands. She starts taking off her heavy wedding robes. She even tries to undress him.
Xia Jingshi physically dodges her. He clearly wants no part of this marriage. Seeing how things are, Feng Xiyang switches gears. She pulls out a token. She tells him she can help him escape the country of Su Sha tonight.
The Great Escape
Before all the drama goes down, we get another sweet moment. Feng Suige takes Fu Yixiao out for food. He specifically orders spicy dishes for her. He remembers she likes spicy food, even though his own tastes are much milder. It shows he's really been paying attention to her.
The next morning, everything hits the fan. Lu Ke rushes in to tell Feng Suige the news. Feng Xiyang has run off with Xia Jingshi. Their father, Feng Pingcheng, is furious. He orders Feng Suige to hunt them down. Before he leaves, Feng Suige gives Fu Yixiao a special token. It gives her command of all the guards at his mansion. He tells her to wait there for him to return.
The chase is on. Feng Suige and his men pursue the couple past Liaochuan Town. Fu Yixiao gets a bad feeling. She worries Feng Suige is heading into danger, so she decides to follow him. Her instincts are right. Feng Suige's group gets ambushed in a bamboo forest. They handle the attackers, but it slows them down.
Feng Suige figures Xia Jingshi is making a run for Zhennan Pass in the Jinxiu territory. The route goes through Seven Gorges Valley. Feng Suige decides to take a shortcut to head them off. But Feng Xiyang has a royal gold medal. She uses it to get them through a border checkpoint without any issues.
The Standoff
Xia Jingshi is smarter than they give him credit for. He correctly guesses that Feng Suige will be waiting at Seven Gorges Valley. He changes their route and heads north toward North Goose Pass instead. His thinking is pretty sound. Getting captured by Jinxiu forces and taken to their capital is a much better option than being dragged back to Su Sha.
But Feng Suige predicted this. He anticipated the route change. He's already waiting in another canyon with just Gu Yu. The fight is short. Feng Suige takes down all of Xia Jingshi's men by himself. The real problem is his sister.
Feng Xiyang becomes the biggest obstacle. She threatens to kill herself if he doesn't let them go. Just then, Fu Yixiao arrives. She draws her bow and aims an arrow right at Xia Jingshi. It's a tense standoff. If Xia Jingshi tries to use his crossbow on Feng Suige, she won't hesitate.
Suddenly, Xiao Weiran appears and blocks Fu Yixiao's arrow. It saves Xia Jingshi. But in the chaos, Xia Jingshi manages to shoot Feng Suige's hand with his crossbow.
The escape is successful. When Xia Jingshi gets to North Goose Pass, he finds that the Emperor of Jinxiu already knew he was coming. Men are waiting to escort him and his party directly to the capital city of Yujing.
A Kiss Under the Stars
On the way back, Fu Yixiao and an injured Feng Suige stop to rest for the night. He's worried about her, asking about her hand. She brushes it off. She says she doesn't care if her hand is ruined. Then she says it's his fault for making her fall for him.
It's the direct confession he's been waiting for. Hearing her finally say it, Feng Suige leans in and kisses her. Above them, the sky is filled with an aurora. Beside them, a fire is crackling. It’s a perfect, earned moment for them.
