The Morning After

The episode kicks off with Feng Suige waking up to a very bad situation. Fu Yixiao is holding a knife to his throat. She thinks something happened between them last night while she was drunk. She's ready to kill him right there.

Feng Suige has to talk fast. He explains that nothing happened. He just saw how wasted she was and brought her back to her room to sleep it off. Right on cue, Lu Ke barges in without knocking. Fu Yixiao panics. She pushes Feng Suige down onto the bed and drapes herself over him to look convincing. She whispers for him to get rid of Lu Ke. The sight is so awkward that Lu Ke just backs out of the room immediately. After Fu Yixiao leaves, Lu Ke gives Feng Suige the real news. The general from the enemy kingdom, Xia Jingshi, arrives in Yujing City today.

The Guest of Honor Arrives

Feng Suige's sister, Feng Xiyang, is thrilled that Xia Jingshi is coming. She's the one who is supposed to marry him. Her other brother, Feng Chengyang, even brings her a tree as a wedding gift. But then he finds out Feng Suige is against the marriage and didn't send a gift himself. So, he tells his men to just take the tree back. Cold. Feng Xiyang seems to understand, though.

You might remember Ling Xueying and the kids moved to another house. Well, Feng Suige has now posted guards around it. He's locked them in. No one is allowed to go in or out. Fu Yixiao is furious when she finds out. She storms over to his mansion to confront him. He gives her some official-sounding excuse, but it's clearly just a power move. She can't do anything about it.

Trouble in the Ranks

Things are also getting messy in the Feng Camp. Rumors are flying around. The soldiers heard Feng Suige opposes the royal marriage. Now they think the Emperor is going to strip him of his command. His men are furious. They're talking about marching on the court to protest. A mutiny is brewing.

Feng Suige calls in his lieutenants to calm everyone down. But it's too late for one soldier. A guy named Yun Qing leaves behind a dagger and a note. He says he's going to kill someone for his general. It's obvious who he means. He's going after Xia Jingshi. This would be a total disaster and could start a war. They have to stop him.

A Deal with an Archer

Yun Qing is an archer. This gives Feng Suige an idea. He goes to Fu Yixiao for help, since she's also a master archer. He offers her a deal. He will agree to five of her demands if she helps him find Yun Qing. Her first demand is simple. Remove the guards from Ling Xueying's house. He agrees.

Fu Yixiao gets to work. She analyzes the route Xia Jingshi will take into the city. She figures out the most likely spot for an ambush is a specific tavern. They rush over there. Just before the assassination can happen, a man named Yun Fang finds Yun Qing and stops the attack. The crisis is over. Fu Yixiao really saved the day here, and Feng Suige actually thanks her. He's going to the city wall to see his sister, and when Fu Yixiao asks to tag along, he lets her.

A Past Trauma Revealed

This is where everything goes sideways. Up on the city wall, Fu Yixiao gets a clear look at Xia Jingshi as his procession enters the city. The sight completely breaks her. Old memories come flooding back. She looks dazed, then grabs a knife and starts swinging it wildly at nothing. Feng Suige has to grab her and hold her tight to calm her down.

Down below, an official named Shen Wu ushers Xia Jingshi into a carriage. The general never even sees the chaos happening above. As his carriage moves through the streets, the people of Susha scream and curse at him. Their two kingdoms, Jinxiu and Susha, are bitter enemies. They hate him.

Later, Xia Jingshi meets with the emperor, Feng Pingcheng. He's arrogant. He doesn't bow or show any respect. Feng Pingcheng doesn't seem bothered. He tells Xia Jingshi directly that he only agreed to this political marriage because his daughter, Feng Xiyang, insisted on it.

Then, a top general from Jinxiu named Ning Fei shows up at the First Prince's mansion. He's shouting and demanding to see Fu Yixiao. Feng Suige handles it quickly. He walks out and knocks Ning Fei out with two punches.

The Princess and the General

As Xia Jingshi is leaving the palace, he finally meets Princess Feng Xiyang. He has no idea who she is. He doesn't remember her at all.

She has to remind him. Three years ago, their paths crossed in the desert. He was an enemy soldier, but he didn't kill her. Instead, he threw her a pouch of water. That water kept her alive for two days until Feng Suige found and rescued her. She tells him she fell in love with him that day. When she heard Jinxiu was sending him for the marriage alliance, she agreed without a second thought.
