Spoiler Alert
A Past in a Book
Fu Yixiao goes to see Xia Jingshi. You might think this is about them getting back together, but it's not. She wants answers about her past. She's not there for a tearful goodbye, which is what Lu Ke seemed to think. It turns out Xia Jingshi has been keeping a journal for her. It details everything that's happened since her memory loss. He gives it to her, hoping it will help. He also tries to give her the Shooting Moon Bow. She refuses. Her left hand is still injured, so she can't use it anyway. After their meeting, she goes back to the First Prince's mansion and starts drinking by herself.
A Suspicious Omission
Later, Fu Yixiao reads the journal. Something feels off. She notices that every major change in her life started after the Battle of Pingling. But Xia Jingshi barely wrote anything about it. He just glossed over the most important event. This makes her very suspicious. Why would he leave that part out?
The Political Games Heat Up
This episode gives us some important political context. We see that during negotiations, Xia Jingshi agreed to Susha's terms. He had one condition. Susha had to return the Jinxiu general, Fu Yixiao. The Susha official, Shen Wu, agreed easily. Then he found out Fu Yixiao was staying with the First Prince. He completely panicked. He knew he could not just go to the prince's home and demand she leave. He went crying to his emperor, Feng Pingcheng. The emperor basically told him to relax. Agreeing to return her is one thing. Actually being able to take her is another problem entirely. This calms Shen Wu down.
A "Gift" for the Groom
Feng Suige is also making moves. He writes a letter and tells Lu Ke to get it to the Yunlai Inn in Jinxiu. The letter is for the Holy Emperor of Jinxiu. Feng Suige calls it a special wedding "gift" for Xia Jingshi. This is definitely not going to be a toaster. Back at the mansion, Fu Yixiao feels bad for misjudging Feng Suige. She decides to invite him for a drink as an apology. He is happy to accept. But when he gets to her room, she is gone. All she left behind was an open jar of good wine on the floor.
A Reunion and a Revelation
Fu Yixiao is actually at an inn meeting her old comrades from Jinxiu. Ning Fei and Xiao Weiran are there. Ning Fei refuses to believe her memory is gone. He keeps showing her his battle scars, trying to jog her memory. We learn Xiao Weiran has severe burn scars on his back. Fu Yixiao cannot remember them or the events they describe. But she is clearly moved by their loyalty. She ends up talking with them for hours.
The Truth About the Battle
She gets some critical information from Ning Fei. He tells her some guards claimed she fell from the cliff by accident. They said she was not attacked. More importantly, he reveals something about the Battle of Pingling. The Prince of Zhennan got a military report right before the battle. He then suddenly changed the entire plan. He set up an ambush at Zhennan Pass, turning it into a trap for Feng Suige. This is huge.
A Public Showdown
Xia Jingshi finds Fu Yixiao and again promises to take her back to Jinxiu. She tells him flat out that she does not want to go. Feng Suige shows up, and the two men start arguing. Xia Jingshi is certain that once her memory returns, she will choose him and Jinxiu. Feng Suige just smirks. He asks Xia Jingshi if he is really not scared of what she will remember. That question hangs in the air.
Drawing Lines in the Sand
Things get even more complicated. Feng Suige's sister, Feng Xiyang, arranges to meet Fu Yixiao. Feng Xiyang is engaged to Xia Jingshi, remember. She tells Fu Yixiao that she does not care about her past with him. She even offers Fu Yixiao a place in their home after the wedding. Or, if she prefers, a good job in the army. Fu Yixiao sees right through it. She tells Feng Xiyang that if she truly did not care, she would not have come to see her at all.
As they are walking on the street, they run into both Xia Jingshi and Feng Suige. Feng Suige sees his chance. He walks right up and grabs Fu Yixiao's hand, right in front of Xia Jingshi. She tries to pull away, but he holds on tight. Xia Jingshi just has to stand there and watch. He has no right to interfere. Feng Suige looks incredibly smug about it. His sister, Feng Xiyang, is secretly thrilled. You can see both siblings are master manipulators.
