"Zhao Jiadi Season 2" Episode 7: Recap & Spoilers

Following that whole Go competition thing, Jiang Tanle's best friend, who also happens to be a Go agent named Cheng Ying, is pushing Zhao Jiadi to go pro in Go. But Zhao Jiadi politely turns her down. Cheng Ying gets a call and steps away, and Jiang Tanle uses the opportunity to invite Zhao Jiadi to dinner as a thank you. Zhao Jiadi says he's already got plans and mentions he's heading to Hangcheng.

Jiang Tanle thinks Zhao Jiadi is too young to settle into finance as a lifelong career so early. Zhao Jiadi counters that being stuck in a rut is more about mindset than environment, which Jiang Tanle finds surprisingly insightful. Meanwhile, Lin Peng is sitting in his car, watching Jiang Tanle and Zhao Jiadi chatting, and he's definitely feeling the green-eyed monster.

We see Wei Jinghai visiting his father Wei Mingyi's grave. Flashbacks to a rough childhood and witnessing his father's suicide paint a grim picture. After Wei Mingyi's death, Li Minxian took Wei Jinghai in. But despite Wei Jinghai being the one who made the first pot of gold for Li's family, all that's said about him in the end is that he "was a good man."

This leads Wei Jinghai to his life philosophy: people are either used by money or by emotions. The first one to show their true feelings and cards ends up as a pawn. He's living to win and to reclaim everything Wei Mingyi lost.

Zhao Xin tasks Huang Fengtu with investigating Wei Jinghai and learns that he's the son of an old friend. Zhao Xin regrets not being able to act immediately when something happened to Qi Dage, intending to find Qi Dage's family with all his assets after everything was over, but it was too late. Huang Fengtu comforts Zhao Xin, saying that the Zhao family, across three generations, are all stubborn mules, and that Zhao Xin's biggest difference is that he is too arrogant.

Because Shang Bao got into a fight at a nightclub, he got fired. So, he's tagging along with Zhao Jiadi, who got a job interview notice from Risheng, to Yuancheng. On the train, Zhao Jiadi sees a guy trying to steal an old man's luggage, pretending it's his own. Zhao Jiadi steps in, and thankfully, a train cop shows up.

In front of everyone, the old man opens his bag to check, and everyone's shocked to see it's full of cash. The cop nabs the thief. The old man thanks Zhao Jiadi and, seeing him reading a finance book, offers some advice. He leaves his contact info before getting off at his stop.

Back to Lin Peng, he sees Zhao Jiadi's resume and immediately remembers that friendly chat with Jiang Tanle. He files that away in his mind. Zhao Jiadi and Shang Bao arrive in Hangcheng and immediately start looking for a place through an agent. After checking out a few spots, they finally find a cheap and decent place. The agent agrees to knock off 100 bucks if they sign a year-long lease.

After dinner, Zhao Jiadi gets ready for his Risheng Group interview, while Shang Bao hits the job market, but doesn't find anything suitable. Zhao Jiadi and the other interviewees start with the first round of tests. A fellow interviewee, Song Mingjian, gets a perfect score on the written test, catching everyone's attention.

Because Zhao Jiadi is late, Yu Kai helps him hold his test scores. Zhao Jiadi fills out "proprietary trader" on the application form, which happens to be the same position that Song Mingjian is applying for. Song Mingjian's junior sister hears that Zhao Jiadi graduated from a second-rate university, and is full of disdain and mockery towards him, but he doesn't care at all.

Finally, it's interview time. Song Mingjian goes in before Zhao Jiadi. His logical thinking is sharp, his grades are excellent, and his resume is impressive, which pleases the interviewers. When Zhao Jiadi goes in for his interview, he brushes past Song Mingjian, who looks particularly serious. Lin Peng also glances at Zhao Jiadi.
