Episode Summary

Jiang Yan attempts to flee the country, tracked by Ning Zhen, who is secretly working with police captain Cao Jin. Wu Keran also leaves the hospital, intending to confront Jiang Yan at the airport. A car chase ensues, ending with Jiang Yan's car crashing. The real mastermind is revealed to be Luo Yin, seeking revenge for his wife's death caused by a faulty drug from the Jiang Group. However, it's further unveiled that this "Luo Yin" is actually Wu Fei, who assumed the identity after the real Luo Yin was murdered. Wu Fei had been hired by the Jiang Group to find Ning Zhen's mother (who had evidence of the drug's issues), leading to a complex chain of events involving the evidence falling into the hands of Li Guokun before Wu Fei retrieved it.

Spoiler Alert

The Walls Are Closing In

So, we kick things off with Jiang Yan getting that antsy feeling that her cover might be blown. Smart cookie. She starts prepping to make a run for it, but little does she know, Ning Zhen is playing shadow, watching her every move. The second Jiang Yan shows signs of bolting, Ning Zhen is on the phone, likely tipping off the authorities (or someone!) about Jiang Yan's probable airport destination.

The cops, led by Cao Jin, are already on it, having received intel that Jiang Yan is booked on a flight to the US. As Cao Jin and his team race to the airport, they get another call – Wu Keran has done a runner from the hospital. Talk about a double whammy! Meanwhile, Lu Fan is understandably worried sick about Ning Zhen, recognizing the immense burden Ning Zhen is trying to carry alone.

Back with Cao Jin, news comes in that Wu Keran isn't just missing; she’s already at the airport. And here’s a creepy twist: it turns out "Qiao En" (remember that name?) has been messing with Wu Keran's head, using her deceased father's phone number through some virtual network shenanigans to communicate with her. Cao Jin puts two and two together and figures Wu Keran might be planning to serve Jiang Yan a dish of cold, hard revenge before she can even think about boarding that plane.

High-Speed Drama and a Shocking Reveal

Jiang Yan, now fully aware she's got a tail, floors it. Ning Zhen is hot on her heels, trying to keep up. Then, out of nowhere, another car zooms onto the scene, matching Jiang Yan's speed and then some. This mystery vehicle expertly maneuvers Jiang Yan's car into a tricky fork in the road and then BAM! – sends Jiang Yan’s car tumbling off the road in a nasty crash.

Jiang Yan is trapped in the wreckage. Ning Zhen, despite everything, rushes to try and pull her out. But hold on to your hats, because this is where the real mastermind steps out of the shadows, and it’s… Luo Yin! Jiang Yan is visibly stunned, and honestly, so were we! "Why would you want to kill me?" she probably stammered. Just then, Cao Jin and the cavalry arrive.

The Secret Alliance Unravels

And here’s reveal number two: Ning Zhen hadn't been working entirely alone. She had secretly met with Cao Jin, laying out the entire twisted case for him. Turns out, these two had cooked up a plan. Cao Jin had suspected that "Qiao En" wasn't the true "Shen Yuan" (the "Abyss," the big bad they've been hunting). So, he tasked Ning Zhen with luring out the actual puppet master. And all those times Ning Zhen managed to give the police the slip? Yep, that was Cao Jin pulling some strings behind the scenes to help her. Clever!

A Grieving Husband's Vengeance

Cao Jin tries to reason with Luo Yin, telling him the law will ensure justice for all the victims. But Luo Yin isn't buying it. He’s seen Jiang Yan walk free for too long and is terrified she’ll escape legal punishment yet again. He’s willing to expose himself if it means finally avenging his wife.

Then comes Luo Yin's heartbreaking story. His wife suffered from a severe heart condition. Desperate, Luo Yin took her to Jiang's Group, which was conducting trials for a related drug. Initially, her health seemed to improve, but six months later, the drug's side effects led to her tragic death from heart failure. When Luo Yin confronted Jiang's Group, they hid behind a liability waiver, and the law didn't touch them. So, Luo Yin began a daily protest outside their building, demanding justice.

It was during one of these protests that he saw Ning Zhen's mother and a staff member from the drug trial fleeing the building in a panic. Luo Yin immediately suspected they had found evidence proving the drug was faulty, but he couldn't persuade them to hand it over. He kept his vigil and later witnessed Li Guokun and Zhang Jianmin committing a murder, which only solidified his belief that the drug was indeed a problem.

The Ultimate Twist: Who is Luo Yin, Really?

Just when you think you've got it figured out, Ning Zhen drops another bomb: she deduces that the man standing before them isn't the real Luo Yin. He's actually Wu Fei! The actual Luo Yin? He was silenced – killed – way back when he witnessed Li Guokun's crime. Wu Fei has been denying his true identity, likely to protect Wu Keran. Mind. Blown.

Flashback: How Wu Fei Got Dragged In

The episode then takes us back. Du Jun, the general manager of Jiang's Group, had approached Wu Fei (who, it turns out, is an ex-cop turned private investigator, and was in dire need of cash at the time). Du Jun wanted Wu Fei to find a "missing employee" – who we can now guess was likely Ning Zhen's mother. Wu Fei sensed something fishy and was hesitant, but Du Jun offered a cool 200,000, and Wu Fei, needing the money, took the case.

Using surveillance, Wu Fei managed to track down Ning Zhen's mother. However, reviewing the footage later, he realized that the crucial evidence she was carrying had somehow been lost when she made her escape. And who found this lost evidence? None other than Li Guokun, who then tried to use it to blackmail Jiang's Group. Wu Fei eventually confronted Li Guokun and retrieved the evidence.

But here’s a crucial slip-up: Wu Fei inadvertently dropped his PI business card during the encounter. Li Guokun, initially terrified because he thought Wu Fei was still a cop, had a sudden change of heart (and likely got some dangerous ideas) when he realized Wu Fei was no longer on the force.
