Spoiler Alert
New Responsibilities and Old Tensions
First off, some good news for Shi Laoyezi (Grandfather Shi). His granddaughter, Xiao Xiazi, was successfully contacted by Zhao Dongcheng. After a chat, she decided to bring her grandpa to a major hospital for a thorough check-up. This meant their furry family member, A Gui the dog, needed a temporary guardian. And who stepped up to the plate? None other than Zhao Dongcheng, adding "dog-sitter extraordinaire" to his list of talents.
Meanwhile, Yu Shi had a pretty heated argument with her mom – you know how those can be! She stormed out and ended up having dinner with Zhao Dongcheng and the rest of the gang. Zhao Dongcheng, with his usual sharp intuition, immediately sensed that something was off and that a mother-daughter clash had occurred.
Shen Xinxin, ever the thoughtful friend, went on a mission to find Xingcheng's top-rated Zisu Taozi Jiang (a special perilla, peach, and ginger dish) specifically for Guan Xu. A sweet gesture, right? Well, Guan Xu apparently didn't think so. While Zhao Dongcheng was in the bedroom, Guan Xu callously tossed the dish into the living room trash can. Zhao Dongcheng later stumbled upon this sad sight when he came out for a glass of water, leaving him feeling pretty helpless and undoubtedly disappointed for Shen Xinxin.
Game On and Ghosts of the Past
The atmosphere is also buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming District Medical Association Games. The Qingshan Lvshui Community Hospital team suffered a defeat three months prior and has been feeling the pressure from other hospitals ever since. This time, Yu Shi, Zhao Dongcheng, and their teammates are fired up and absolutely determined to clinch a victory.
Adding another layer to the personal drama, Yu Shi's mom showed up at the hospital for a check-up. Zhao Dongcheng, who practically grew up under her watch and sees her as a second mother, was there waiting for her. Yu Shi's mom then pressured Zhao Dongcheng into giving her the contact information for Yu Shi's former head nurse from her previous job. Zhao Dongcheng reluctantly agreed but made her promise not to let Yu Shi know. Secrets, secrets!
During this hospital visit, Guan Xu also spotted Yu Shi's mom. A memory suddenly clicked into place for him: he recalled seeing her in a hallway right around the time he and Yu Shi were unceremoniously kicked out of a situation by a man named Wang Li. The realization that this woman was Yu Shi's mother added a new dimension to that unpleasant memory.
An Unlikely Truce and a Public Apology
Driven by this, Guan Xu decided to confront Wang Li after work, and coincidentally, Zhao Dongcheng showed up too. Guan Xu wasn't looking for a fight; his main goal was to persuade Wang Li to apologize to Yu Shi, especially in front of her mother, understanding how much more impactful such a humiliation is when witnessed by family.
Then, in a bizarre turn of events, Wang Li started choking on a mantou (steamed bun) while eating by the roadside! Quick-thinking Guan Xu and Zhao Dongcheng rushed over and managed to help him, averting a more serious situation. This life-saving incident actually paved the way for an unexpectedly candid conversation. Wang Li opened up about his immense work pressure and how he often felt disrespected and looked down upon. Zhao Dongcheng empathized, sharing that even their supposedly "high-status" jobs as doctors come with their own share of misunderstandings and challenges. His point? Everyone's struggling in their own way, so why make things harder for one another? Wang Li seemed to take this to heart and finally agreed to sign their survey form.
Later, the hospital organized a joint free clinic, with everyone bustling around. Shen Xinxin even managed to convince her mom to sponsor some daily necessities for the event. Yu Shi's mom also attended the clinic. Afterwards, Wang Li and his son arrived, and Wang Li formally and sincerely apologized to Yu Shi in front of everyone, including her mother. Zhao Dongcheng seized the moment to tell Yu Shi's mom that although their work might not seem as prestigious as that of other doctors, they are incredibly proud of what they do and have never felt inferior because of it.
This entire Wang Li saga finally reached a resolution. More importantly, Yu Shi's mom began to truly understand and appreciate her daughter's profession. She lovingly prepared a lavish meal for Yu Shi, and the mother-daughter duo shared a heartwarming reconciliation.
A Somber Note and a Secret Kept
However, the episode didn't wrap up without a touch of sadness. It was revealed that Shi Laoshi's (Old Master Shi's) medical condition is quite serious. The doctor informed his granddaughter, Xiao Xiazi, of the situation. Understandably upset, Xiao Xiazi went to a restaurant to gather her thoughts and, by pure chance, ended up sharing a table with Zhao Dongcheng. After their meal, with Xiao Xiazi still unaware of Zhao Dongcheng's connection to her grandfather, she sent him a message revealing the gravity of Shi Laoshi's illness, but pleaded with him not to tell her grandfather just yet.
