Episode 8 Recap & Spoilers
Despite having placed Qiao Manman under confinement earlier in the day, Fu Chengjin deliberately turned a blind eye that evening, allowing her to leave the residence. He knew she was heading to Wanshi Fang to seek guidance from Ariya. When Jiu Feng expressed concerns about potential dangers at Wanshi Fang, Fu Chengjin reassured him. He explained that he had recently visited Wanshi Fang himself and met Qiao Manman's brothers, finding them to be honest, good-natured individuals with nothing suspicious about them.
Ariya, meanwhile, continued her dual routine: treating patients by day and attempting to restore her own lost memories by night through self-administered acupuncture. Ji Mo, startled to find her with a head full of silver needles, anxiously inquired if she felt anything or had recalled any memories. Ariya admitted her efforts were still fruitless. However, she mentioned that the storybooks laid out before her felt strangely familiar, evoking a sense of déjà vu, as if she had frequently read them in the past. Ji Mo considered this perfectly normal, given that the books were always present at Wanshi Fang, a place Ariya visited daily.
Qiao Manman, who had previously shown no interest in the traditional healing arts, had recently developed a fascination with medical texts. She was now engrossed in them daily, diligently researching treatments for leg ailments, and couldn't seem to put the books down. She had just learned about a technique called Gua Sha and was practicing it with surprising aptitude, even managing to procure a special bed for the treatments.
Fu Chengjin, observing Qiao Manman's constant efforts on his behalf and noticing she no longer sought out Fu Yunnuo, began to rather enjoy the attention. However, whenever Qiao Manman administered her treatments, he would grimace and feign agony. Despite his legs being perfectly fine, he continued the charade of having no sensation in them. Qiao Manman, however, remained completely oblivious to his deception, mistakenly believing her medical skills were simply inadequate.
Later that evening, Bi Lian joined Qiao Manman and Fu Chengjin for dinner. Remembering how Fu Yunnuo and Qiao Manman usually chatted so amiably, Fu Chengjin decided to provoke Qiao Manman. He began to dote on Bi Lian, attentively serving her food with an air of deep concern. Not to be outdone, Qiao Manman immediately started serving Jiu Feng and her maid with similar attentiveness. Bi Lian, who possessed a natural beauty, added to the tension with some flirtatious glances towards Fu Chengjin. This was too much for Qiao Manman; visibly upset, she slammed down her chopsticks, shot a defiant look at them, and stormed out of the room.
Fu Yunnuo, on his part, wasn't idle. Having heard that Qiao Manman was frequently visiting a healer at Wanshi Fang in the evenings, his curiosity was piqued, and he decided to investigate in person. When he arrived, Ariya examined him but found nothing medically wrong. However, when Fu Yunnuo began inquiring about her and Qiao Manman, Ariya grew wary of his intentions and promptly showed him the door.
Bi Lian had arrived with a clear agenda, but Fu Chengjin seemed largely uninterested in her advances. Taking matters into her own hands, Bi Lian secretly added a potent aphrodisiac to Fu Chengjin's medicinal soup. Coincidentally, Qiao Manman also arrived with her own herbal concoction for Fu Chengjin. Seeing that she intended for him to drink six bowls of her medicine, Fu Chengjin quickly claimed that Bi Lian had already given him medicine and that the different remedies should not be mixed. Impulsively, Qiao Manman picked up the bowl Bi Lian had prepared and drank it herself.
The potent drug quickly took effect. Qiao Manman became flushed, her body overwhelmed by a burning heat. With her inhibitions lowered and in Fu Chengjin's presence, she found it difficult to control herself. Fortunately, Fu Chengjin maintained his composure like a true gentleman. He gently pushed her away, urging her to lie down and rest. In her dazed and delirious state, Qiao Manman murmured her true given name: "Manman."
