Double Happiness Episode 10 Recap & Spoilers: A Breaking Point
This week, pressure mounts on all fronts as professional crises bleed into personal lives, pushing everyone to their limits. Mei Chengyi is fighting to save his career, Xu Kaixin plays a dangerous game to reclaim her assets, and a family argument culminates in a life-or-death situation.
The episode kicks off with Mei Chengyi walking into a firestorm at work. A major project has gone sideways, and his director lays down a harsh ultimatum: fix it in one day, or the company will not cover any further losses, and not even his backer, President Li, will be able to save his job. The young woman responsible for the error approaches him in tears, and seeing her distress, Chengyi lets her off with a sigh, unable to bring himself to reprimand her further.
Meanwhile, Xu Kaixin is finally ready to fight for what she's owed. Three years after her divorce from Qian Hao, she's pursuing a redistribution of their assets. However, her lawyer at the Chengcheng Law Firm delivers a sobering reality check: the law doesn't recognize the concept of a "sham divorce." This means the agreement she and Qian Hao made at the time is not legally binding. To win, she'll need to gather substantial new evidence against him. Undeterred, Kaixin feels optimistic about her chances and the various avenues she can use to get what she needs. In a moment of playful confidence, she sends a picture to Mei Chengyi, only to retract it five seconds later. It's a classic "play hard to get" tactic, but Chengyi is too swamped with his work crisis to notice her mind games.
At the same time, a quiet drama is unfolding with Hu Xiaojiao. Left alone at home, the pregnant Xiaojiao spends her time anxiously searching online for methods of inducing a natural miscarriage, a clear sign of her desperation. This stands in stark contrast to her mother-in-law, Qin Sulan, who is ecstatic about the coming grandchild. Qin Sulan drags Qian Hao out to shop for baby supplies and even floats the idea of legally notarizing her will to leave half of her estate to the child. Qian Hao, knowing the precariousness of the situation, immediately shuts the idea down, fabricating a quick excuse to placate his mother.
Back at the office, Mei Chengyi spends a grueling afternoon in negotiations with the manufacturer, who finally agrees to his proposed compensation terms. The victory comes at a cost, as he has to work late into the night. At home, his absence fuels Youyou's frustration. Already on edge after a trip to the market where she and her mother were the subject of loud gossip, Youyou gets into a heated argument with her father and storms out of the house.
When Mei Chengyi finally arrives to pick up his child, he learns that Youyou has run off after the fight. He tries calling her, but she left her phone at home. Youyou's father grows increasingly frantic, terrified she might do something drastic. As Chengyi leaves to find her, a brief, three-second shot of him in the elevator perfectly captures his exhaustion. He's a man crushed by the weight of the world, forced to pivot from a draining corporate battle to an explosive domestic crisis, highlighting the immense struggles of a middle-aged man.
Elsewhere, another confrontation is brewing. When Sister Lili picks up Xiaomi from kindergarten, she is unexpectedly met by Qian Hao and his mother, Qin Sulan. Xiaomi happily recognizes her father. Claiming they need to discuss the inheritance with Xu Kaixin, they convince a bewildered Sister Lili to bring them back to the apartment. When Kaixin opens her door to find her ex-husband and former mother-in-law in her living room, she feels like she's stepped into an alternate reality. A quick, private explanation from Sister Lili clarifies how they got there.
Sensing an opportunity, Kaixin pulls Qian Hao outside to talk. Realizing he is a two-faced hypocrite, she executes a clever gambit. She discreetly calls Hu Xiaojiao, allowing Xiaojiao to listen in as Qian Hao's true colors are revealed. Puffed up with anger, Qian Hao is forced to admit that the Xu Kaixin of three years ago is gone, replaced by a much smarter and more cunning woman.
The episode culminates with multiple characters at their breaking point. Youyou's father, unable to sit still any longer, declares he's going out to find her, with his wife warning him not to come back if he can't. Youyou, meanwhile, wanders aimlessly until she reaches a riverbank, a small smile appearing on her face as she watches two sisters playing. Just then, Mei Chengyi finally finds her. But as he begins to speak, their conversation is cut short by frantic shouts that someone has fallen into the water. They rush closer, and to their horror, Youyou recognizes the person struggling in the river: it's her own father.
