Double Happiness Episode 21 Recap: The Truth Unravels

This Episode , the tangled webs of lies and secrets begin to fray, pushing every character to their breaking point. A hospital showdown exposes a painful truth, a clandestine hotel meeting leads to a shocking confession, and a vulnerable heart falls prey to a new deception.

Hospital of Hard Truths

The episode opens with high drama at the hospital. As a nurse prepares to administer a shot to prevent a miscarriage, Ma Xiaomei storms in, putting a stop to the procedure. Hu Xiaojiao, already distraught over Qian Hao's coldness, begs for the injection, but Ma Xiaomei is resolute. "This farce needs to end," she declares, bluntly revealing the devastating truth: the baby isn't Qian Hao's. She insists that a miscarriage is the only way to put an end to the whole charade.

Meanwhile, in another room, Youyou is recovering when Hu Pei lets slip a painful memory from the past. He recounts how, shortly after You Xin's burial, a grief-stricken Mei Chengyi got drunk and nearly froze to death in the middle of winter, clinging to her tombstone. The story casts a shadow over Youyou's face, and Hu Pei, realizing his mistake, quickly tries to distract her with a game.

A Secret in the Cemetery

Later, Mei Chengyi makes an unexpected return to the cemetery and walks right in on Youyou at work, blowing her cover as a supposed "state-owned enterprise executive." Flustered, Youyou explains she only fabricated the story to give her father peace of mind. After a moment of silence, Mei Chengyi agrees to keep her secret from her parents. Before leaving, he gently reminds her to change her clothes, which smell of incense from the memorial rites.

Hotel Spies and a Custody Showdown

The tension escalates when Qian Hao takes Xu Kaixin and their children, Dami and Xiaomi, to a hotel near the ICU where his mother, Qin Sulan, is being monitored. Though he books three rooms, Ma Xiaomei secretly follows them and snaps a damning photo as Qian Hao, Xu Kaixin, and the kids all enter one room together. Unbeknownst to her, Xu Kaixin, wary of the situation, immediately moves her children to a different room after Qian Hao pretends to go to his own.

Ma Xiaomei wastes no time sending the photo to a bedridden Hu Xiaojiao, whose parents, the Xia Chungengs, arrive to plead with her to terminate the pregnancy. Their pleas are met with insults, causing Ma Xiaomei to leave in a rage. Mr. Xia then calls Hu Xiaojiao's biological mother, declaring he is cutting all ties with her.

The real drama unfolds when Qian Hao knocks on Xu Kaixin's new hotel room door to negotiate. Believing his mother doesn't have much time left, he makes a desperate offer: the house plus 300,000 yuan in exchange for full custody of Xiaomi. Xu Kaixin is appalled. "My child is not for sale," she retorts, pressing him on why he's fighting for Xiaomi instead of caring for the baby Hu Xiaojiao is carrying. Hitting a nerve, Qian Hao finally cracks and admits the baby isn't his. But his confession doesn't sway Xu Kaixin, who firmly tells him a deal is off the table. Behind the door, Dami overhears the entire exchange, and resentment begins to fester.

Cracks in the Family

Back at home, the conflict spills over. Dami, fueled by what he overheard, suddenly pushes his younger sister, Xiaomi, to the ground. When Xu Kaixin scolds him, he tearfully yells, "It's all Xiaomi's fault!" and runs out of the house, with Li Xiaoxiao chasing after him.

Later, a concerned Mei Chengyi texts Xu Kaixin, but she's too overwhelmed to reply and retracts her message. Sensing something is wrong, he calls. She declines his offer to come over, insisting, "I can handle this myself."

From One Betrayal to Another

Seeing the photo of Qian Hao and Xu Kaixin at the hotel, Hu Xiaojiao is completely heartbroken. She turns to her social media account and pours her heart out to an online stranger known as "Tianya." Preying on her vulnerability, the user offers comfort, promising to "always be there" for her. On the other side of the screen, a scammer smiles, confident their trap has been set.
