Practice Dates and Painful Truths

The episode kicks off with Mei Chengyi and Xu Kaixin trying to get their story straight over dinner. In preparation for meeting Kaixin's parents, Chengyi has drilled her with a list of nearly fifty questions about their "relationship." Kaixin seems unconcerned, figuring it's fine if she gets a few wrong. Chengyi, however, knows his supposed future father-in-law won't be so easily fooled. The pressure mounts when a video call comes in from his ex-wife, Youyou. Over the phone, they can hear Youyou's father talking about the upcoming meeting, which immediately gives Kaixin cold feet. Chengyi manages to coax her into staying, calming her nerves for the challenge ahead.

Later, as Chengyi walks Kaixin home, the line between acting and reality begins to blur. Feeling a genuine spark, Kaixin uses their "rehearsal" as an excuse to take his hand. To her delight, the gesture makes Chengyi blush, and she secretly celebrates her luck in finding such a good man. Their moment is briefly interrupted by a call from Kaixin's best friend, Li Xiaoxiao, who, upon hearing a man's voice with Kaixin, wisely and quickly hangs up, determined not to get in the way of her friend's budding romance.

Once Chengyi leaves, Kaixin immediately calls Xiaoxiao, rushing over to her studio to spill all the details about the growing feelings between them.

Meanwhile, the drama shifts to Kaixin's ex-husband, Qian Hao. Miserable and lonely, he reaches out to his old friend, Song Ran. Qian Hao is fully aware that Song Ran disapproves of him for leaving Kaixin for another woman, but he's desperate for someone to talk to. The soft-hearted Song Ran agrees to meet. Qian Hao proceeds to get incredibly drunk, clinging to his friend and sobbing about how terrible his life has become. Just then, his girlfriend, Hu Xiaojiao, calls. Annoyed by the very sound of her voice, Qian Hao tries to ignore the call but accidentally answers it. On the other end, Xiaojiao gets an earful of his drunken, unfiltered, and deeply unflattering thoughts about her.

Heartbroken by what she overheard, Xiaojiao flees to her aunt and uncle's house, crying so hysterically that she begins to dry-heave. Her aunt's first thought is pregnancy. But that theory hits a snag—they both know Qian Hao has performance issues in the bedroom. The suggestion leaves Xiaojiao stunned into silence.

Back on the brighter side of things, Chengyi picks up his children from his former in-laws. They cheerfully inform him that all the food is prepped and they are excited to welcome him and Kaixin for dinner the next day.

At Kaixin's home, her sharp-eyed daughter, Dami, notices flowers and correctly guesses that her mom has a new love interest and is likely searching for a stepfather. Kaixin tries to play it cool, but Dami insists on vetting any potential candidate. Amused, Kaixin agrees and shows her a picture of Chengyi. Dami's reaction is priceless: she bluntly asks if there's something wrong with this "uncle," questioning why else a man like him would fall for her mom. Kaixin, caught between laughter and annoyance, shoos her daughter out of the room.

The next morning, everyone is in motion. Kaixin gets dolled up for her big day, while at Qian Hao's apartment, Song Ran is just leaving, having stayed the night to make sure his friend was okay after his drunken episode. Waking up, Qian Hao realizes Xiaojiao never came home. He calls her, but it's her uncle who answers, grimly telling him to come over that evening for a talk.

Spoilers: The Bombshell

The episode's biggest twist belongs to Hu Xiaojiao. After her aunt's suggestion, she takes a pregnancy test, which comes back positive with two solid lines. At first, her aunt and uncle assume the baby must be Qian Hao's and advise her to sort things out with him.

But Xiaojiao drops a bombshell: she confesses that the child isn't Qian Hao's. Overwhelmed and distraught, she admits that one night, she got drunk and had a one-night stand. The devastating truth is, she is pregnant, and she has no idea who the father is.
