Fancy Land Episode 15 Recap: A Desperate Confession and a Staged Murder
The investigation into Bai Tao's death spirals into a maze of contradictions and shocking revelations. Just as Qin Yang's team uncovers evidence that complicates their theory of the crime, Li Xiulan delivers a stunningly detailed confession. However, her story is immediately thrown into doubt by the re-emergence of a key witness with a damning accusation.
Conflicting Clues and a Lawyer's Intervention
The episode opens with investigator Qin Yang and his team facing a major puzzle in the Bai Tao case. Surveillance footage shows Li Xiulan withdrawing 20,000 yuan and giving it to Bai Tao, which suggests she initially intended to pay him off, not kill him. This theory is shattered by the medical examiner's report, which concludes that Bai Tao was already dead before his body was thrown from the abandoned building. As the team grapples with this contradiction, a new player, the lawyer Lin Yi, begins to meddle in the lives of Li Xiulan and her daughter, Li Yan.
Lin Yi visits Li Xiulan, revealing that he knows she forged Li Yan's medical records. He warns her that the lies will only destroy her daughter's future. He then uses this leverage to manipulate the vulnerable Li Yan. After a shopping trip where he buys her expensive clothes she's too uncomfortable to accept, he takes her home to pack. There, a terrified Li Yan sees a hallucination of someone named Li Meng in the mirror. Lin Yi seizes the opportunity, offering her protection by moving her into his home. While Li Yan openly suspects his motives are selfish, she feels powerless to refuse and agrees to move in, with the arrangement that she will tutor his child, Lin Nian, in return.
A Chilling Confession Under Pressure
During a new round of interrogation, Qin Yang confronts Li Xiulan with the surveillance footage of the cash exchange. Cornered, Li Xiulan abandons her previous statements and confesses to a premeditated plot. She claims she never intended to give Bai Tao the money and had planned to kill him all along.
According to her confession, she knocked Bai Tao unconscious after he took the cash. When he came to, he arrogantly dared her to run him over and threatened to demand even more money. Enraged, Li Xiulan floored the accelerator as he tried to flee, striking him with the car. When she got out to check on him, he suddenly grabbed her by the ankle. In a state of pure panic, she grabbed a nearby rock and bludgeoned him to death.
Afterward, she dragged his body to the derelict building to stage an accident. She meticulously faked the scene, smearing mud on his feet to create footprints and even wearing his shoes to make it look like he had slipped and fallen. Qin Yang, however, remains skeptical, pointing out how easily such clumsily forged evidence would be uncovered by forensics.
Motive, Remorse, and a Final Twist
Li Xiulan’s motive was raw and desperate: Bai Tao was blackmailing her with photos of her daughter, Li Yan, and she saw no other way out. She tearfully insists that he deserved to die. Her resolve only cracks when Qin Yang reminds her that with her gone, Li Yan will be left all alone in the world.
Just as the case appears to be heading toward a close, the narrative is upended once more. Bai Fan, a relative of the victim, awakens from a coma in the hospital. His first act is to frantically contact Qin Yang with a chilling accusation: Li Xiulan is insane and had threatened to kill everyone, setting the stage for a dramatic new conflict.
