Reborn Episode 6 Recap & Spoilers: The Devil in the Diary
Qingyu's investigation into her sister Bei Yu's past uncovers a devastating history of emotional deception and brutal violence. As she connects with people from Bei Yu's university days, the image of her sister shatters, replaced by the portrait of a young woman tormented by a manipulative and abusive man. Meanwhile, a silent protector emerges at school, and the very monster from Bei Yu's past steps into the present, cornering Qingyu with a chilling demand.
A Secret Meeting and a Glimpse of the Past
The episode opens with Qiao Qingyu taking a risk. During a meal at her family's restaurant, she recognizes He Feihai, a friend of Jing Rui's and, more importantly, a former classmate of her sister, Bei Yu. Seizing the opportunity, Qingyu slips him a note, arranging a secret meeting at a dessert shop and skipping her class's basketball game to be there.
He Feihai paints a confusing picture of Bei Yu. He remembers her as a quiet, well-behaved girl who changed drastically after starting vocational college. He recalls seeing her at a KTV with a wealthy businessman, leading him to believe she had become "frivolous." He expresses deep regret for not reaching out before her death. Before leaving, he gives Qingyu a precious gift: a disc containing a video of Bei Yu's dance performance for her art school entrance exam.
Watching the video, Qingyu is stunned. The graceful, radiant girl on the screen is a stranger to her, a stark contrast to the troubled sister she knew. The mystery of what caused such a profound change in Bei Yu deepens. As Qingyu and He Feihai part ways, her classmate Ming Sheng happens to pass by, his friends teasing him that the "quiet" Qingyu seems to have a busy social life.
An Online Investigation Leads to a Key Witness
During computer class, a brilliant idea strikes Qingyu: log into her sister's old campus intranet account. Sifting through Bei Yu's profile, she finds a photo of her with a short-haired girl. Qingyu sends a message, and the girl quickly responds, identifying herself as Bei Yu's university roommate and best friend.
The two meet, and the friend finally reveals the traumatic truth of Bei Yu's university life. She explains that Bei Yu, admired for her beauty, was relentlessly pursued by a wealthy, flashy businessman known as "Brother Hei." After discovering his possessive and cruel nature, Bei Yu broke up with him. She then started a relationship with a local hairdresser, but Brother Hei wouldn't let go. He brought his thugs to the salon, smashed the place up, and intimidated the hairdresser into submission. To save his own skin, the hairdresser falsely claimed that Bei Yu had seduced him. This lie gave Brother Hei the excuse he wanted; he brutally beat Bei Yu. Her friend recounts finding Bei Yu sobbing in their dorm room that night, a broken spirit from which she never truly recovered.
Bullying and a Silent Protector
Qingyu’s life at school takes a dark turn. A group of male students, knowing her family owns a restaurant, maliciously place a delivery order to harass her. As she delivers the food in the pouring rain, they block her path, mocking her and knocking the food containers from her hands.
From a distance, Ming Sheng watches, his fists clenched in anger. Instead of confronting them directly, he makes a calculated move. He hurls his basketball with force, striking one of the bullies squarely in the back. He jogs over, casually apologizing and claiming his "hand slipped," effectively breaking up the confrontation and saving Qingyu from further torment.
The Devil Arrives
Back on her sister's social media, Qingyu finds several intimate photos of Bei Yu with "Brother Hei." In the pictures, her sister is smiling, looking genuinely happy. As she tries to reconcile this with the story of abuse, the man himself appears at her school gate. Driving a luxury car and oozing a sleazy confidence, he is the perfect embodiment of the violent man Bei Yu's friend described.
Wary, Qingyu refuses his offer to get in the car, suggesting they talk at a nearby milk tea shop instead. Inside, his predatory nature is on full display. He tells her he remembers seeing her years ago when he used to wait for Bei Yu. Suddenly, he grabs her arm, his voice laced with menace. "You're just as pretty as your sister," he says. "Be my girlfriend."
Qingyu pulls back in horror, but he closes in, his final words sealing her terror: "It's only right for you to pay back what your sister owed me." Trapped and defenseless, Qingyu has a horrifying epiphany: this violent abuser is the same man her sister once described in her diary as a gentle, beloved sweetheart. The episode ends as the shadow of Brother Hei looms over her, the full weight of her sister's tragic secret crashing down.
