Recap: A Prince's Gambit and a Fevered Nightmare

The episode opens with Mo Junyu hot on Mo Qingchuan's trail, determined to search Prince Jing's residence. To protect the hidden and gravely injured Mo Qingchuan, Xia Qiguang pulls off a brilliant and painful gambit. Recalling a childhood memory where his mother pointed out a young Mo Qingchuan as a "guardian of the blazing sun," he finds the resolve to do whatever it takes. He rushes to the Empress Dowager, but not before stabbing his own arm, claiming he was the victim of an assassination attempt. The ruse works perfectly. The Empress Dowager, concerned for his safety, dispatches the elite Imperial Guard to stand watch over Prince Jing's residence.

When the Minister of War arrives with troops to search the property for "Mo Wang," he is swiftly blocked by the Empress's guards. Even Mo Junyu, arriving in person to insist that the fugitive is inside, cannot break the standoff and is forced to retreat in fury.

While the immediate threat is neutralized, a new one emerges from within. Mo Qingchuan is consumed by a high fever, causing her to drift in and out of a delirious state. One moment, she is a vulnerable child, begging her "brother" for candy and martial arts lessons. The next, her training takes over, and she lashes out with uncontrollable violence, severely injuring Xia Qiguang with a single palm strike as he watches over her. Jiang Kui has to drag a wounded Xia Qiguang to safety, warning him of how terrifyingly powerful her master is when she loses control.

Later, when the chaos subsides, Xia Qiguang returns to find Mo Qingchuan curled into a ball, weeping and asking, "Why is everyone afraid of me?" In a moment of profound connection, he quietly vows to never abandon her.

Spoilers: A Bond Forged in Prison and a Truth Unspoken

As Mo Qingchuan recovers, key pieces of the past are revealed. Xia Qiguang asks Jiang Kui how she came to be so devoted to Mo Qingchuan. Jiang Kui confesses her tragic backstory: her family was annihilated by the rival State of Chu, and she was thrown in prison after killing a man on the street in a desperate act of revenge. It was there, in an adjacent cell, that she met Mo Qingchuan. Mo Qingchuan, also a prisoner enduring torture, would listen to Jiang Kui recite martial arts mantras and correct her mistakes. They formed an unbreakable bond, and when Mo Qingchuan was eventually freed, she kept her promise to get Jiang Kui out, earning her undying loyalty.

The physician, Fang Du, after brewing a particularly foul-tasting medicine for Mo Qingchuan (which Jiang Kui hilariously tries and immediately spits out), decides his work is done. He leaves behind remedies for both Mo Qingchuan's internal injuries and Xia Qiguang's wounded wrist before departing to live a quiet life in the mountains.

Upon waking, Mo Qingchuan is sharp and lucid. Though no one says a word, she knows her secret is out. While unconscious, she heard Xia Qiguang desperately holding her hand and calling her by her real name. She understands he knows who she is, and his silence on the matter speaks volumes. In a gesture of trust, she gifts him a custom-made sleeve arrow, a deadly weapon, while warning him to be careful with his own internal energy.

Despite Xia Qiguang’s fears that Mo Junyu will retaliate, Mo Qingchuan is done hiding. "A direct confrontation is better than hiding," she states, resolved to return to the Chan House and face her nemesis.

The episode ends on a knife's edge. Mo Qingchuan steps into the Chan House to find Mo Junyu waiting for her, a sly smile on his face. "Would you do me the honor of joining me at my humble residence?" he asks.

Looking him dead in the eye, she gives her simple, chilling reply: "Lead the way." The long-simmering conflict over her true identity is set to finally erupt.
