The walls are closing in from every direction in a tense and explosive episode. A desperate attempt to escape ends in bloodshed, a key figure's conscience finally cracks, and a massive conspiracy involving a faked death begins to unravel, putting everyone on a collision course with the truth.
The episode kicks off with the complete fallout between Wang Yu and Chen Shenglong. Realizing he's in mortal danger, Wang Yu packs his bags to flee, leaving a sum of money for his friend Chang Sheng to go into hiding. But Chen Shenglong is a step ahead, ordering his ruthless enforcer, Xiong Lei, to hunt Wang Yu down.
A terrified Wang Yu goes on the run. When Xiong Lei captures his friend Chang Sheng, Wang Yu, in a panic, calls Chang Sheng to arrange passage out of Dongping in a freight car. It's a trap. Xiong Lei and his men are already lying in wait at the station. With no options left, Wang Yu makes a final, desperate call to prosecutor Li Renjun, claiming to have criminal evidence against both Chen Shenglong and the powerful Yu Tiancheng. Li Renjun rushes to the distribution center to save him, but it's too late.
The murder, happening right before his eyes, leaves Li Renjun deeply traumatized.Brought in for questioning by the Special Investigation Team, he’s a nervous wreck. After downing a drink to steady his nerves, the dam breaks. Li Renjun confesses everything. He admits to mishandling the Wanhai case, claiming he was deceived by Chen Shenglong and Wang Yu. He also confesses to buying a property from Chen Shenglong at a heavily discounted price. When he later discovered Chen's ties to organized crime, he tried to pay back the difference but was instead threatened, with Chen even intimidating his wife, Liu Yun. His whole plan was to force Wang Yu to confess, hoping it would provide evidence to lessen the charges against Liu Yun. Overcome with guilt and grief, he breaks down in tears.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team casts a wide net, arresting Sun Fei and Jiang Hongjun and beginning to interview officials from the Dongping judicial department. This puts Jiang Xudong on edge, as he fears they will uncover an old incident where his son, Jiang Yuan, killed someone in a car accident. He confronts Yu Tiancheng, demanding he stay away from his son, but Yu Tiancheng brushes him off. A desperate Jiang Xudong then tries to force Jiang Yuan to abandon his new energy project and leave Dongping, but his son adamantly refuses, leaving Jiang Xudong sleepless with worry.
As the investigation into Wang Yu's murder intensifies, the Special Investigation Team quickly identifies over thirty suspects. Song Yanchuan and Xu Yanwu coordinate a massive joint operation between court police and regular officers to track them all down.
Not content with just murder, Chen Shenglong sends his man, Xingzi, to stir up trouble at Hongjia Village to sabotage Jiang Yuan's new energy project. When Hong Liang's father intervenes and pushes Hong Yi to the ground, Xingzi captures the moment on video. After some malicious editing, the clip goes viral, painting Hong Liang as a corrupt prosecutor who assaults civilians. The scandal forces Hong Liang to face his superiors, Sun Xiangqun and Zhang Fang, who reprimand him for the negative publicity.
With the Special Investigation Team now wanting to question her, Liu Yun prepares for the worst. She sends her son, Li Qiqi, to live with her parents and stocks the fridge for her husband, Li Renjun. As he drives her to the task force headquarters, he watches her walk away, his heart heavy with a mix of emotions. When she is questioned, Liu Yun takes full responsibility for her dealings with Chen Shenglong, attempting to clear her husband of any involvement.
The case takes a shocking turn when Hong Liang reviews the suspect files and recognizes Xiong Lei. He realizes Xiong Lei is actually Wang Dayou, the main culprit from the "1.31" shooting case who was reported to have died after being released on medical parole.Sun Fei then arranged for Wang Dayou's release on medical parole, faked his death, and provided him with a new identity as Xiong Lei.
In the final arc of the episode, another suspect, Cheng Zijian, is arrested but refuses to cooperate. The investigators bring in Li Yanxin, a woman he deeply loves. Seeing her distress and hearing her pleas to confess, Cheng Zijian's emotional defenses crumble, and he admits to all of his crimes.
