"The Wonderful World" Episode 21 Spoilers
The episode picks up with the emotional fallout from the previous events. Shi Diandian, deeply upset, boards a bus without a second glance, ignoring Xu Tian’s frantic calls. Meanwhile, Wen Xiaoyao wanders the streets aimlessly. A call from Song Guanwang, Zhou Tong's father, shifts the dynamic. While tidying his late son's room, Song Guanwang found a video that reminded him of Xu Tian's visit on the day of the accident. He tells Wen Xiaoyao that Xu Tian is a good person, and that his own anger was misplaced. He asks her to come to Beijing for Zhou Tong's burial on the 15th.
Back at her rental, Wen Xiaoyao informs her friend Qiao Mi that they will both return to Beijing the next day. The news is a relief to Qiao Mi. Wen Xiaoyao then tries to contact Shi Diandian, but her timing coincides with a crisis.
Xu Tian, unable to reach Shi Diandian, contacts her mother, Fang Fang. She reveals a critical piece of information: Shi Diandian suffers from amnesia whenever she's under severe stress. The recent turmoil involving Wen Xiaoyao has triggered an episode, and she has likely forgotten who she is and how to get home.
Fortunately, Wen Xiaoyao's call to Shi Diandian's phone is answered by a bus company employee who has just found the phone and spots a disoriented Shi Diandian nearby. Wen Xiaoyao and Qiao Mi rush to find her. During their conversation, Wen Xiaoyao reassures a still-anxious Shi Diandian that she is leaving for Beijing for good and that Xu Tian is not Zhou Tong. This allows Shi Diandian to open up about her fears. While they talk, Qiao Mi has a chance encounter at a subway station with a charming street musician, also from Beijing, and they exchange numbers.
Later, Xu Tian finds Shi Diandian at her dorm and reassures her of his feelings, explaining there is nothing between him and Wen Xiaoyao. Relieved, she embraces him. When he learns Wen Xiaoyao is leaving, Xu Tian decides he must also go to Beijing to pay his respects to Zhou Tong.
In Beijing, events move quickly. Qiao Guanghui drives Song Guanwang to Babaoshan for the burial. Shi Diandian packs for Xu Tian, but begs him not to go. He remains resolute. On the way to the airport, she insists that Wen Xiaoyao must be the one to pick him up.
At the cemetery, after Zhou Tong's burial, Song Guanwang and Wen Xiaoyao find a measure of peace. He invites her for a meal at his home, the first time they will have cooked since the tragedy. Wen Xiaoyao then goes to visit the nearby grave of her mother, Jia Sulan. Overwhelmed by grief, she climbs to the top of a rockery, contemplating suicide. Just in that moment, her phone rings. It's Shi Diandian, calling to make sure she arranges to pick up Xu Tian from the airport.
This call pulls Wen Xiaoyao back from the brink, but it marks a dark turn for Shi Diandian. After speaking to her parents, she returns to her dorm and makes a devastating decision. She throws away all her medication, deletes both Xu Tian's and Wen Xiaoyao's contact information, turns off her phone, and even removes the battery from her alarm clock. She lies down on her bed, having taken every possible step to completely and permanently erase Xu Tian from her memory.
