Rose and Gun: Episode 2 Spoilers

In the second episode, the intertwined stories of two friends, Tang Xin and Lan Yangyang, deepen as they navigate family pressures, new romantic possibilities, and professional ambitions, all revolving around a group of soldiers.

Still haunted by the memory of being rescued from the water, reporter Tang Xin is determined to find the soldier who saved her. Her efforts to get information through a friend are blocked by military confidentiality. This frustration is compounded by a tense confrontation at home with her father. She tearfully reveals that her reluctance to date a military man stems from her childhood, where his constant absence as a soldier left her feeling abandoned. Overcome with guilt, her father emotionally persuades her to attend a meeting he has arranged.

Meanwhile, Tang Xin's best friend, Lan Yangyang, has a chance encounter that sparks a new romance. While buying milk tea, she is captivated by a handsome soldier named Zong Qing. Though he has to leave suddenly for duty before she can get his contact information, fate brings them together again when Zong Qing steps in to save her from a group of street harassers. This time, Lan Yangyang successfully gets his WeChat.

Tang Xin's own life takes a dramatic turn when she goes undercover to expose a fraudulent jewelry store. Her act of civic duty leads to a misunderstanding with Wu Si, a Marine, who mistakes her for a troublemaker, pinning her to the ground and breaking a bracelet in the process. At the police station, she learns of his military status but is again stonewalled by confidentiality rules when she asks about her rescuer.

The two friends reunite at Lan Yangyang's graduation. A medical student, Lan Yangyang confides in Tang Xin that her father is pressuring her to work at a military hospital, a path she resists, envying Tang Xin's apparent freedom. To celebrate, they visit the same milk tea shop, where Lan Yangyang gushes about Zong Qing, showing Tang Xin his photo and recounting another time he bought her a cake, which she takes as a sign of his interest.

Seeing an opportunity, Tang Xin devises a new two-part plan to get the access she needs for a military interview. Her primary strategy is to use a broken camera as a pretext to get closer to Wu Si. However, learning that Zong Qing is also a soldier, she now has a backup plan: if her first approach fails, she'll leverage Lan Yangyang's budding connection.
