Zong Qing's strange behavior makes Lan Yangyang suspicious. After her persistent questioning, Zong Qing finally admits that he was in contact with a child patient who has HIV. Instead of being shocked, Lan Yangyang is incredibly supportive, wanting to face the situation with him as they wait for his hospital test results.
Meanwhile, Han Yuhang shows up downstairs at Tang Xin's home, demanding an answer from her. Tang Xin calmly reveals that she is now engaged to Wu Si. Hearing this, Han Yuhang refuses to give up and grabs Tang Xin as she tries to leave. Just then, Wu Si appears, stops Han Yuhang, and tells Tang Xin to go. Han Yuhang argues that Wu Si can't make Tang Xin happy because of the dangers of his job, warning that one day he might not return from a mission, leaving a waiting Tang Xin even more heartbroken.
After his confrontation with Han Yuhang, Wu Si reflects on the dangerous situations he's faced on past missions and starts to agree that his profession puts Tang Xin at risk of constant worry. Tang Xin, who didn't go home, was waiting for him downstairs. She runs to him playfully when he appears and nestles into his arms. However, to her complete shock, Wu Si breaks up with her. Tang Xin is devastated that her happy anticipation has ended in a painful separation.
While waiting for the test results, Zong Qing plans to sleep on the sofa, worried he might transmit the virus to Lan Yangyang. But she lovingly insists on sleeping together with him. Elsewhere, Wang Chen has recovered enough to walk without crutches and immediately shares the good news with Bai Zijian.
The next day, Tang Xin arrives at work wearing sunglasses. Her colleagues have prepared a cheerful party for her, but she is too heartbroken to tell them what really happened. Tang Xin's father goes to the hospital to demand a reason from Wu Si, who confesses his fear of not being able to give Tang Xin a happy life and his worry that he could end up like his injured comrades. At the same hospital, Wang Chen asks his doctor when he'll be fully recovered. The doctor has to tell him the hard truth: his injuries will prevent him from ever recovering enough to meet the standards of the special forces team. Wang Chen is crushed by the news. Lan Weiguo and his wife also learn about Zong Qing's situation and call their daughter, Lan Yangyang, upset that she kept it from them.
Brigade Commander Wang learns that Wu Si is emotionally unstable after the recent mission and has broken up with Tang Xin. He orders Wu Si to take some time off to recover and to see a psychologist every week. Meanwhile, Cheng Yuan is still in a coma. His doctor suggests that talking to him about familiar things might stimulate his brain and help him wake up. At the doctor's suggestion, Brigade Commander Wang and Wu Si talk to Cheng Yuan, and he actually wakes up.
That evening, Lan Yangyang explains everything to her parents. Her mother sympathizes with her daughter's difficult situation, while her father, Lan Weiguo, feels a sense of pride, seeing that his daughter has matured and is facing the challenges required of a military wife.
Seeing Cheng Yuan awake leaves Wu Si feeling down, consumed by guilt because Cheng Yuan was injured while protecting him. To help Wu Si, Brigade Commander Wang tells him about Zong Qing's potential HIV exposure. Wu Si's mother comes to visit, completely unaware of the breakup, and keeps pushing to meet Tang Xin's family. Just then, Tang Xin calls. Wu Si's mother forces him to take the call. Tang Xin says she wants to talk properly, but Wu Si lies that he's busy and hangs up. His mother can tell something is very wrong, and after she questions him, Wu Si finally confesses his inner fears.
Finally, the bandages are removed from Cheng Yuan's eyes. He learns the extent of his eye injury and realizes he can no longer be a sniper.
