Rose and Gun Episode 31: A Wedding Dress and a Will

Even though he was the one who ended it, Wu Si deeply misses Tang Xin. He finds himself drawn to her old hospital room, lying on the bed she once occupied just to feel close to her again. Tang Xin, equally in love and unwilling to let their relationship go, takes a bold step. Hearing that Wu Si's mother is in town, she arranges to meet her, hoping to understand what's happening with Wu Si.

Instead of giving direct answers, Wu Si's mother shares a painful piece of family history. She recounts the last phone call they ever received from Wu Si's father, who was working undercover at the time. A young Wu Si, too innocent to understand the danger, cheerfully wished his father goodnight. His mother suspects that Wu Si's sudden change of heart is a misguided attempt to protect Tang Xin from the same life of constant worry that she endured. Hearing this story doesn't deter Tang Xin; it strengthens her resolve. She decides she wants to marry Wu Si and even asks for his mother's blessing.

Meanwhile, the harsh realities of their profession hit home for the marines. A retirement ceremony is held for those injured in the line of duty, including Wang Chen, whose foot injury prevents him from continuing in the special forces. Wu Si also visits the hospital to see Cheng Yuan, who can no longer be a sniper due to an eye injury. Knowing his career is over, Cheng Yuan applies for retirement before Wu Si even has a chance to speak with him, later sharing a sad farewell with his comrades.

In an effort to mend the couple's broken relationship, Zong Qing shows Tang Xin a collection of letters, videos, and other items that Wu Si kept, all testaments to how much he missed and loved her. The gesture deeply moves Tang Xin. In a separate moment, as Zong Qing prepares to return to his unit, his partner Lan Yangyang suggests they move to a new home upon his return, hoping to leave behind the unpleasant memories tied to their current one.

The episode builds to a powerful climax when Tang Xin texts Wu Si, insisting they must meet in person to make the breakup official. Wu Si arrives at the designated location to find a room romantically decorated with flowers. There, Tang Xin is waiting for him, wearing a wedding dress. She has planned a surprise proposal.

Overwhelmed, Wu Si can't hide his love, but when Tang Xin holds out her hand, he hesitates, his own hand trembling with uncertainty. Sensing his fear, Tang Xin closes the distance and embraces him tightly. She explains that she understands his hesitation because she read the last will he wrote during a mission—a letter filled with his love for her and his fear of leaving her behind. It was this letter that made her realize the depth of his worries and gave her the courage to propose. As they hold each other, all of Wu Si's repressed emotions come flooding out. Tang Xin gently reminds him of the promise they made before his last mission: that they would get married as soon as he returned.
