Homeland Guardian Episode 13: A New Game Begins
The recent stock market turbulence fails to deliver the windfall Anna had anticipated; instead, her ambitious EGM plan is forced to a halt. Panicked, Councilor Keung rushes to the police, insisting the money he received from Wai Chi-ling remains untouched. He later puts on a tearful performance for the media, claiming he was maliciously framed and has no connection to Wai Chi-ling.
Meanwhile, Wong Tung-hoi is finally cleared of all suspicion and reinstated as the Financial Secretary. The police reveal the full scope of Anna's plot: she orchestrated a power outage and framed Wong Tung-hoi in a calculated attempt to cripple Hong Kong's economy. Following this resolution, a superior, after careful consideration, approves the promotion of Ho Ho-fai to the special operations team. Undeterred by her initial failure, Anna receives new orders and prepares to launch a second, more determined plan against the city's economy.
Fresh off his success in cracking the case, Ho Ho-fai plans a celebratory picnic with his family. Choi Cheuk-yan, feeling guilty that her cousin's shop was vandalized because of her, offers financial compensation. Her cousin, who is nearing her delivery date, is unable to manage the business and hopes Choi Cheuk-yan can keep it running. Choi Cheuk-yan had originally returned to the city due to her son Hin Hin's illness, but she is surprised to see his condition improve significantly after spending time with Ho Ho-fai. Her heart softens, and she decides to stay, having forgiven Ho.
That evening, Ho Ho-fai learns from Chan Yiu-yeung that he is being transferred to the operations team. He hesitates, having just promised his family a picnic, but his inherent determination wins out. At the same time, Lam Wai-yin is with her father when they discover that his fundraising efforts in Europe have been leaked, a clear act of sabotage. Wong Tung-hoi also notices highly unusual activity in the stock market, suspecting a coordinated effort to manipulate it.
The target is revealed to be the Lam Group. Lam To urgently gathers his partners, explaining that false rumors of insolvency are being spread to damage the company. He implores them not to sell their shares, confidently promising to protect the group. While some trust his leadership, others fear their stocks will become worthless. Unfazed by the rumors, Lam To calmly introduces Chow Sai-ho, the chairman of the Choi Tung Group, to the shareholders. This is all part of Anna's new plan—a warning shot to Lam To. However, Lam To's reputation and a decisive move by Chow Sai-ho to purchase Lam Group shares help stabilize the stock, averting immediate disaster.
With his transfer official, Ho Ho-fai requests that Shiu Tsz-chun join him in the operations team. A grateful Shiu Tsz-chun mistakenly thanks his father, believing he was behind the promotion. Elsewhere, Anna once again tries to enlist Chiang Kwun's help, but he flatly refuses to cooperate with her.
On the personal front, Leung Yuen-ting avoids her mother's attempts at matchmaking by hiding out at a gym. Shiu Tsz-chun steps in, accompanying Leung Yuen-ting to meet her mother and delivering a heartfelt speech that convinces her to allow her daughter to continue her police career, leading to an emotional reconciliation. Ho Ho-fai guiltily informs Choi Cheuk-yan that his new assignment means he must break his promise about the picnic.
On their first day in the new unit, Ho Ho-fai is assigned to field operations while Chan Yiu-yeung handles surveillance. The team begins digging into Anna's background. Shiu Tsz-chun recalls a past encounter with Anna while he was tailing Gordon, leading him to believe she knows Chiang Kwun well and that Chiang Kwun could be a valuable source of information.
