Homeland Guardian Episode 7: Spoilers and Schemes

The situation escalates for Financial Secretary Wong Tung-hoi as a coordinated plot unfolds to discredit him and derail a public housing initiative. The episode opens with Officer Ho Ho-fai of Unit 3 skillfully de-escalating a domestic dispute where a couple was threatening to jump from a building, a testament to his calm and resourceful nature.

Meanwhile, the forces aligning against Wong Tung-hoi begin to move. Louis instructs Anna to eliminate Wong, viewing him as an obstacle to the "EMG plan." A public housing proposal Wong discussed with Councilor Chiang is leaked, causing a drop in property prices. This is compounded when a man named William approaches Mrs. Wong, claiming to have a buyer for a villa she was selling, making it appear she had prior knowledge of the price drop. When confronted by the media about the housing proposal, Wong denies it, attempting to quell the rumors.

The conspiracy deepens as Anna tries to use the Lung Hing Triad to stir up public unrest. The triad's leader, Chiang Kwun, flatly refuses. However, Anna finds a willing partner in Ah Ken, who dispatches his men, dressed respectably, to agitate the public and organize an "anti-corruption" protest. During the protest, Ho Ho-fai's suspicions are raised when he discovers paint and eggs in the protestors' bags and observes the ringleaders hastily leaving the scene when an elderly man falls ill.

The narrative then shifts to reporter Lam Wai-yin of "Quantum News," who is tasked with investigating the property price rumors. Posing as a homebuyer, she confirms from a real estate agent that Mrs. Wong did indeed sell her villa just before the news broke. Enraged by the implications of insider trading, Mrs. Wong, accompanied by her lawyer, confronts the news agency. The situation turns physical when she shoves an employee, Fong Tai-yu, causing him to be injured. Unit 3 is called to the scene. Lam later discovers that the surveillance footage of the incident was maliciously edited to portray Mrs. Wong as aggressive, which, combined with online slander, turns public opinion against her. Ho Ho-fai later warns Lam that her investigation seemed too straightforward, suggesting she might be being manipulated.

The episode also touches on the officers' personal lives. Ho Ho-fai mistakenly believes his ex-wife has a new boyfriend, only to later realize it was a misunderstanding. In a lighter moment, Officer Shiu Tsz-chun is mistaken for his gym partner Leung Yuen-ting's boyfriend by her mother, who insists he stay for dinner.

The episode concludes with Wong Tung-hoi being advised by Ho and Shiu to slip out a back door to avoid a demonstration at the Financial Secretary's office, while at home, he and his wife discuss the disastrous visit to the news agency, with Mrs. Wong lamenting the media's lack of ethics.
