Episode 36 of Legend of the Female General begins with the urgent sound of war drums from the beacon towers. Xiao Jue and He Yan know instantly that trouble has found the Great Wei kingdom again. Wasting no time, they rush to the palace. The Emperor orders Xiao Jue to lead his army to Mingshui to fight the invading Wutuo forces.

However, the Emperor makes a calculated move to keep the powerful duo apart. Yan He and Chu Zhao are dispatched to Huayuan, which is also under attack, while He Yan is sent to Rundu with Li Kuang to defend the city. He Yan understands this is the Emperor's way of guarding against her and Xiao Jue's combined influence. Xiao Jue reassures her, pointing out that Rundu is strategically located between Mingshui and Huayuan, allowing her to provide reinforcements to either front.

Before the generals depart, Yan He's pregnant wife, Xiuxiu, insists on accompanying him, and he agrees. After they leave, Xiao Jue's older brother, Xiao Jing, sees them off, promising to take care of everything at home.

Soon after arriving at their posts, the situation in Huayuan becomes critical as the Wutuo continue to send more troops. He Yan leaves 5,000 elite soldiers with Li Kuang and leads the rest of her forces to reinforce Huayuan. Her arrival is decisive, leading to a great victory. A celebratory banquet is held by Chu Zhao to honor their success.

The victory, however, comes at a devastating cost. Yan He, having fought relentlessly for two days and two nights, collapses from his severe injuries and dies. Just before his death, he makes He Yan promise not to tell Xiuxiu immediately. At almost the exact moment he falls, Xiuxiu goes into premature labor, giving birth to a daughter she names Muxia, a name Yan He had already chosen.

Grief-stricken and furious, He Yan confronts Chu Zhao. She scathingly blames him, arguing that if he hadn't advised the Emperor to divide their forces, Yan He would not have been left to fight alone and die.Overwhelmed with guilt, Chu Zhao realizes the catastrophic error of his judgment.

Following their defeat at Huayuan, the Wutuo army redirects its forces to reinforce their troops at Mingshui. He Yan quickly arranges for her subordinate, Jiang Jiao, to remain in Huayuan and assist Yan He's deputy, while she leads her army to support the struggling Xiao Family Army.

The battlefield at Mingshui is a scene of brutal carnage. Xiao Jue finds himself surrounded by a dozen Wutuo soldiers. Just as his situation becomes dire, He Yan and her cavalry charge in. Together, they fight their way to the Wutuo commander and kill him, securing a hard-won victory at Mingshui.

In the aftermath, Chu Zhao is held accountable for his disastrous advice that weakened the Great Wei's military and led to so much suffering. The Emperor orders him to be stripped of his official rank and exiled to the border, never to serve again.

With peace restored, Xiao Jue and He Yan return to the capital. The Emperor, finally letting go of his suspicions, sends their rewards to their homes and, more importantly, issues an imperial edict for their marriage.Looking at each other, they gratefully accept. After so many trials, they can finally be together.

The capital, Yaojing, celebrates another joyous occasion with the grand wedding of General Fengyun (He Yan) and General Feihong (Xiao Jue).
