A Cure Worse Than the Disease
Wuzhen is not doing well. She stumbles into the Demon Market, clearly sick from overusing the Cat Duke's power.Wordless Book is there to help, but he gets a shock. While he's trying to heal her, she calls out Mei Zhuyu's name in a daze. This does not please him.
Wordless Book tells her what's wrong. She has two different powers fighting inside her. He says the only real cure is to get rid of her human side completely. She needs to become a full demon. And he claims he's found a way to do it.
Later, Wuzhen goes home to find Mei Zhuyu waiting for her. He asks where she's been, and she lies, saying she was at the Ruyi Lounge.Mei Zhuyu senses something outside. He looks out the window and sees Wordless Book lurking there. So, he pulls Wuzhen into his arms and gives her a deep kiss. It's a clear power move to declare ownership, and Wordless Book can only watch in anger.
The Mess at Mei Manor
A Very Awkward House Call
Things get complicated for the show's other couple. Liu Taizhen hears that Mei Si is sick and rushes over to the Mei Manor.She finds him playing in the courtyard, perfectly healthy. It was just a trick by Xuanhui.
Before she can get properly mad, a servant starts spreading realgar powder around the yard. This stuff is bad news for demons. Both Liu Taizhen and Xuanhui immediately feel weak and look pale. Mei Si tries to stop the servant but falls and hurts his knee. As he's helping Liu Taizhen inside, he feels a sharp pain on his leg. He looks down and sees two snakebite marks. He's been poisoned.
Liu Taizhen wants to use her powers to heal him, but she can't with servants around. She has to call for a normal doctor instead. While waiting, she notices something strange. The room is filled with portraits of her that Mei Si has drawn.
A Misguided Proposal
Mei Si's father shows up and brings up the old arranged marriage agreement. He wants them to get married as soon as possible. Seeing Liu Taizhen's discomfort, Mei Si speaks up. He declares that he will not marry her. His father gets furious and slaps him across the face.
Later, Xuanhui asks Mei Si why he rejected the marriage when he's so clearly in love. Mei Si explains his reasoning. He feels he, a mere mortal, is unworthy of a powerful demon like Liu Taizhen.He also worried that if she were the one to break the engagement, it would damage her reputation. He doesn't want to tie her down with a human marriage. Xuanhui relays this to Liu Taizhen, and she's touched by how different he is from other men.
Everyone's Making Moves
The Demon Market Problem
Wordless Book is not giving up. He waits outside Wuzhen's house that night, but she never comes out. Mei Zhuyu catches her trying to sneak away and tells her to stay in bed. This is the last straw for Wordless Book. He decides he needs a new plan to keep Wuzhen by his side forever.
He returns to the Demon Market and goes to the book pavilion. In a desperate move, he activates all the demon cores hidden there. A massive wave of demonic energy floods the market. His goal is to use this power surge to force Wuzhen's full transformation into a demon.
Meanwhile, Mei Zhuyu's team is making progress. His third senior brother, Chihua, finally figures out how to break the magical barrier around the Demon Market.
Secrets and Suspicions
Mei Zhuyu knows something is up with his junior, Shuang Jiang. He takes him out for a casual chat and brings up old events at the Ruyi Lounge.Shuang Jiang gets flustered but eventually confesses what he saw. He witnessed Hu Zhu holding a black cat before vanishing into thin air.He's sure Hu Zhu is a demon, but he believes she's a good one.He points out that if she wanted to cause harm, the Ruyi Lounge would be a bloodbath.He also suspects Wuzhen isn't a normal human, since she's so close with Hu Zhu.
Lines in the Sand
Wuzhen is happy because Wordless Book told her he found a way to make her a full demon. Liu Taizhen hears this and immediately warns her. She tells Wuzhen to be careful of Mei Zhuyu, reminding her of what happened with Duan Lang. But Wuzhen's faith is unshaken. She believes there are good men like Mei Si in the world, and she trusts Mei Zhuyu.
Just then, Wordless Book rushes in with urgent news. Several Celestial Masters have secretly entered Chang'an. At the same time, Mei Zhuyu and Chihua are busy setting up an ancient trap. It's an old array from the Xuanjian Division.If any demon steps on it, their true form will be revealed for all to see.
