Spoiler Alert
Episode 6 of Moonlit Reunion begins with Elder Hui secretly unleashing a Rat Demon to stir up trouble in the Demon Market. But this is just a distraction. His real target is Wu Zhen. Snake Duke's deputy, Ling Xiao, spots this and immediately reports it to the Wordless Book, who realizes Elder Hui is using a forbidden and dangerous technique.
Meanwhile, another one of Elder Hui's minions, Shan Po Suo, sets up a demonic trap near a Thunderstruck Wood tree. She's counting on Wu Zhen being weaker in her human form during the day, thinking that even with Mei Zhu Yu around, she won't be able to escape. The Rat Demon has promised Shan Po Suo that if he successfully takes over the Cat Duke's position, she can feast on anyone she wants in the western suburbs.
Wu Zhen wants to check out the Thunderstruck Wood wood alone, so she pretends to be hungry and sends Mei Zhu Yu off to find food. He comes back with a white rabbit, which annoys Wu Zhen. She teases him, saying she gets that he doesn't like cats, but how could he be mean to a cute rabbit? She grabs his hand, forces him to pet the rabbit's soft fur, and uses the moment to set the rabbit free.
The Wordless Book tracks Shan Po Suo to the western suburbs and demands to know where the Rat Demon is. Instead of answering, Shan Po Suo uses a soul-capturing spell on him, trapping him in an illusion where he and Wu Zhen are living happily together. At the same time, the real Wu Zhen finds the Thunderstruck Wood wood and gets caught in the demonic trap. Just when she's struggling, Mei Zhu Yu shows up and slices the trap apart with his sword. Shan Po Suo, watching from the shadows, is furious that she underestimated him.
Later, as Mei Zhu Yu is bandaging Wu Zhen's arm, he senses demonic energy nearby. He makes up an excuse about getting water and leaves to investigate. Wu Zhen senses it too and, worried about him, follows close behind.
Deep in the woods, Mei Zhu Yu is confronted by a fake "Wu Zhen" who asks him to pick a flower for her. He plays along, even putting the flower in her hair. He lets the fake "Wu Zhen" try to bewitch him, but just as she leans in, he snaps out of it and shoves her away.
The real Wu Zhen is stumbling through the misty forest calling Mei Zhu Yu's name. She sees him appear from the fog, but as she runs toward him, he stops her with his blade. Suddenly, another "Wu Zhen"—identical in every way—appears. Mei Zhu Yu looks between the two of them, then decisively stabs one in the shoulder. It's Shan Po Suo, her illusion broken.
Having failed multiple times, Shan Po Suo is abandoned by the Rat Demon, who tells her to get lost or he'll kill her. Just as the Rat Demon is about to head back to the Demon Market, the Wordless Book appears. He traps the demon and destroys the piece of Elder Hui's soul attached to it, wiping out a hundred years of the elder's power.
Nearby, Mei Zhu Yu collapses, his face purple. He's been poisoned by miasma. Seeing this, Wu Zhen kisses him, slowly drawing the poison out of his body and into her own. The Wordless Book witnesses this moment and walks away, completely heartbroken.
In another storyline, Mei Si sneaks into the Liu family's home through a doggy door, still convinced a demon is hiding there. He's immediately caught by Liu Tai Zhen. To get rid of the persistent guy, Liu Tai Zhen lies and tells him to search for clues to the west.
Following her advice, Mei Si runs right into Wu Zhen's group returning to the city. Wu Zhen instantly understands he's been tricked again by Liu Tai Zhen and tells her men to take him back to Chang'an.
At the city gates, Mei Zhu Yu says goodbye to Wu Zhen and heads back to the western suburbs alone. Wu Zhen, knowing Shan Po Suo is still a danger, decides she can't let it go and goes back too. Mei Zhu Yu finds Shan Po Suo first and, using his powerful Celestial Master technique, defeats her. She begs for her life, offering to trade a secret about Wu Zhen for her freedom. Mei Zhu Yu refuses, choosing to let the secret die with her, and finishes her off with his sword.
