"Hide Games" Episode 2 Recap: Betrayal, Memories, and a Desperate Escape
Episode 2 of Hide Games begins with Han Xu, still reeling from the events of the first episode, being nudged by his apprentice, Xiao Wu, to attend An Shaocong's funeral. At the service, Han Xu just stares blankly at the victim's portrait, completely zoned out. When his colleague, Wang Jian, asks him directly if he was the one who reported the case, Han Xu shakes his head, admitting he has no memory of it at all.
Things get stranger when a woman named Chen Yaxin sits down next to him. She starts talking about their past, but Han Xu is drawing a total blank. She calmly explains that they were classmates at the police academy and that he even used to have a crush on her. Now, she runs her own psychology clinic. Before leaving, she hands him her business card.
Later, Han Xu meets Xiao Wu at the morgue to see the body of the other victim, Xiao Ran, and he's absolutely devastated. The medical examiner, acting on orders from Wang Jian, can't give an official autopsy report. However, after Han Xu pleads with him, the examiner secretly reveals a bombshell: they found An Shaocong's DNA inside Xiao Ran's body. The shock of this betrayal, on top of the deaths, nearly makes Han Xu collapse.
Once he's a bit calmer, Han Xu asks Xiao Wu to buy him some time, promising he'll figure everything out and give them an explanation. The loyal Xiao Wu goes to Wang Jian, insisting his mentor is a good man, but Wang Jian shuts him down. He says all the clues point directly to Han Xu as the killer and warns Xiao Wu not to let his personal feelings cloud his judgment.
Desperate for answers, Han Xu goes to Chen Yaxin's clinic. He tells her about a dream he had that matched the crime scene in every single detail. She suggests he might be intentionally confusing his dreams with reality. She decides to hypnotize him, and fragmented memories of a police operation from two months prior begin to surface. When he wakes up, Chen Yaxin's young daughter, Mengmeng, is standing nearby.
Chen Yaxin concludes that Han Xu isn't suffering from a split personality and decides they need to do a brain scan to find the root cause of his amnesia. But just as they're making plans, Han Xu's phone lights up. It's a text from Xiao Wu with a simple, terrifying message: "They're coming to get you, run." In the final moment, we see Wang Jian in a surveillance room, watching every move Han Xu and Chen Yaxin make.
