Twelve Letters: Episode 6

Spoiler Alert

The Most Awkward Love Letter

The episode kicks off with a letter from the future. Ye Haitang and Tang Yixun are reading it together. It’s a pretty mushy love letter, supposedly from an older Tang Yixun to Haitang. You can just feel the secondhand embarrassment. Tang Yixun is mortified. He points out he’ll be over 50 in the year 2026. He insists he would never write something so cheesy at that age.

Later, the two of them are walking in the rain. They talk about the mysterious letterbox and a strange old man who might be involved. But mostly, they talk about what their lives could be. It’s a quiet moment that shows you how much they’re starting to lean on each other.

A Fresh Start Gets Derailed

Things seem to be looking up for Tang Yixun. His friend, Li Chadong, is finally getting out of the gangster life. He’s fixing up a shop to run a legitimate business. He even tells off a guy from his old boss, Bao Ge, who comes sniffing around. Li Chadong makes it clear he is done with that world. He also pulls some strings and gets Tang Yixun re-enrolled in school.

The night before Tang Yixun’s first day back, Haitang finds him. She gives him a much-needed haircut. While she’s trimming his hair, they talk about the future again. Haitang has a plan. She wants to ace her exams, go to college, sell her house, and get out of town for good. She hopes Tang Yixun can do the same so they can leave together.

The Attack

After the haircut, Tang Yixun walks Haitang home. She gives him a small card as a gift. He’s walking away, happy, when he hears a strange noise from inside her house. He doesn't think much of it and keeps going. That was a mistake. The second Haitang steps inside, her own father, Ye Yibo, knocks her unconscious.

The next morning, Tang Yixun shows up to walk her to school, but she never comes out. We see why. Ye Yibo has her tied up.

The Worst Father of the Year Award

At school, Tang Yixun gets into a small confrontation with a bully named Shen Xiaojun, but he easily scares him off. His real worry starts when he learns that Ye Yibo called the school. He told them Haitang was sick and wouldn't be coming in. Tang Yixun knows something is wrong. He runs to her house and finds it completely empty.

He immediately calls the police for help. A comment from an officer gives him a horrible idea. He realizes where Ye Yibo must have taken her. The plan is monstrous. Ye Yibo wants to have Haitang committed to a mental hospital. He plans to lie and say she's unstable. If she's locked away, he can finally sell the family house. Tang Yixun races to the hospital and finds him, leading to a desperate fight.

Two Broken Kids Find a Family

After Tang Yixun saves her, Haitang finally opens up. She tells him everything about her father. He was so abusive that her mother ran away years ago. When her mom left, she took a large sum of money from the factory where she worked as a cashier. To the outside world, Ye Yibo is a great guy. No one knows what he’s like behind closed doors, so everyone assumes Haitang is the one with the problem.

Hearing her story, Tang Yixun shares his own. He hasn't seen his parents since he was four years old. He grew up entirely in an orphanage. In that moment, these two abandoned kids make a pact. They decide to be each other's family. They will protect each other and give each other the hope that no one else has.

The Connection Is Real

The episode shifts back to the letters. On the 23rd, the date mentioned in a letter from the future, Haitang and Tang Yixun go to the pier. Just as the letter predicted, a specific event happens right in front of them. The connection is real. It’s not a prank. Convinced, Haitang immediately writes a reply to Yu Nian.

Back in 2026, Yu Nian receives her letter. He's with Haitang's son. Now that they have contact, Haitang's son has one big question. He needs to know if the person writing from the past is really his mother.
