The Future Gets Complicated

A Warning Across Time

The episode kicks off with Miaomiao waiting by the special letterbox. She waits all day. Finally, a letter arrives, but the shock of it makes her faint. The security guard just props her on the ground. He has clearly seen this before.

Yu Nian takes that letter to Shen Cheng. He reads it and finally gets confirmation. The person he's been writing to is his own mother, Ye Haitang, back in 1991. Shen Cheng is not happy that Yu Nian told Miaomiao about the letters. He gets angry with her for telling an outsider.

We learn a critical piece of information here. In 2026, Shen Cheng's mother, Ye Haitang, died in an accident. He is desperate to prevent this. So, he writes a new letter to his young mother. He tells her to stay away from Tang Yixun.

The Past Catches Up

The police drop a bombshell on Yu Nian. The man she has always called her father is not her biological dad. His real name is Tang Yixun. He was a good friend of her real father, Yu Zhiyou, in prison. Her real father must have asked Tang Yixun to look after his family. Tang Yixun took this promise so seriously that he never married. He dedicated his life to caring for Yu Nian. She is incredibly moved by this revelation.

Shen Cheng, on the other hand, sees Tang Yixun as the man who killed his mother. He asks the security guard about him, and the guard says Tang Yixun is a good person. This doesn't change Shen Cheng's mind. Soon after, Shen Cheng gets a text and leaves in a rush.

Yu Nian is worried about Tang Yixun. The police are only giving information to Shen Cheng since he is Ye Haitang's direct relative. To get answers, Yu Nian follows him. They end up on a train together. She makes him a cup of instant noodles. You can feel them getting a little closer.

Yu Nian tells Shen Cheng she doesn't believe Tang Yixun is a killer. But she promises she won't protect him if it's true. Shen Cheng reveals he is trying to learn more about his mother's past. He finds her old teacher, Tan Xin. Tan Xin also says he doesn't believe Tang Yixun could kill anyone. He then shares an old rumor. The rumor was that Ye Haitang might have been the real killer, and Tang Yixun took the fall for her.

The Past Gets Messy
