A New Player and an Old Grudge

So, Hua Long decides to bring his buddy, Mao Zi, into the business. He treats him to a nice meal to soften the blow. The job pays well, but it's the kind of work that can get you killed. You can't blame Mao Zi for being a little hesitant. But he's tired of being broke, so he agrees to take the risk.

Hua Long is already in hot water. He's stressing about how to explain a lost shipment to his boss, Sun Ge. As if he needs more problems, two new players show up. Their names are Bing A Dou and Bai Tao Hua. They want to partner up. Hua Long doesn't know them from a hole in the wall. He also doesn't have any product to sell. He decides to stall and check out their background first.

Ba Zi Jiao's Confession

Let's talk about Ba Zi Jiao, also known as Eight-Toed. He's decided to come clean to the police. Officer Tu Hongjiang takes him for some buns at an old friend's shop. The owner is a mute man. He sees the handcuffs on Ba Zi Jiao and gets emotional.

The Backstory

We get a little history here. Years ago, the mute man was at a hospital when his money was stolen. Ba Zi Jiao was the one who returned it. Tu Hongjiang happened to see the whole thing. The mute man protected Ba Zi Jiao by claiming the money wasn't his. To repay the kindness, Ba Zi Jiao became a regular at the bun shop. Tu Hongjiang knows all of this. It's why he believes Ba Zi Jiao isn't a bad guy like San Ma Hu.

How It All Fell Apart

Ba Zi Jiao starts talking. He says Bing A Dou and Bai Tao Hua pulled San Ma Hu into the illegal goods trade. Back in 1998, Bing A Dou got caught using the product himself. That was a huge mistake. San Ma Hu stepped in and saved his life, but Bing A Dou was kicked out of their crew.

After that, Bing A Dou promised to do all the dirty work if San Ma Hu took the money. That's when Ba Zi Jiao started working for San Ma Hu. Eventually, Ba Zi Jiao and Bing A Dou had a falling out over the business. Ba Zi Jiao also admits that he caused a scene at the train station on purpose the day he was supposed to meet San Ma Hu.

The Fake Deal in the Suburbs

Hua Long sets up a deal with Bing A Dou and his crew in the middle of nowhere. What Hua Long doesn't know is that the cops are tracking his phone. Hu Yidao gave his number to the police over a forged ID.

The deal goes down. Bing A Dou's guy checks the product and gives it a thumbs-up. Just as Hua Long is about to leave with the money, Bing A Dou gets greedy. He wants to inspect every single bag. Right then, they hear police sirens. Everyone panics and runs.

Turns out, it was all a scam. Hua Long used a police siren ringtone on his phone. Most of his product was fake, but he still walked away with a whole box of cash. The first thing he does is turn off his phone, cutting off the police's tracking.

The Aftermath

Officer Zhan Peng and his team arrive at the empty deal site. They find a loudspeaker and some drug residue on the ground. Zhan Peng pieces together most of what happened.

Bing A Dou and Bai Tao Hua go back to San Ma Hu. They complain that Hua Long set them up. Then, San Ma Hu's guy, Ping Tou Ge, inspects their newly acquired product. He immediately realizes it's fake and beats up the man who approved it. Bing A Dou is not having a good day.

Hua Long also figures out the cops were tracking him. He's busy counting his new money when Bing A Dou calls. Mao Zi grabs the phone. He's furious and decides he's going to have Bing A Dou killed for trying to pull a fast one on their turf. Hua Long warns him to be careful and not to leave a mess.

A Hit at the KTV

San Ma Hu tells Bing A Dou to use Ba Zi Jiao's old crew for his next job. Bing A Dou isn't happy about it, but he can't say no. He invites the crew—Hu Shangfei, Lu Dingzhong, and Qian Sanshui—to a KTV. They show up late, which only annoys him more.

Bai Tao Hua takes charge. She just throws a box of money on the table and says she wants to be friends. The three guys are completely floored.

A waiter at the KTV, Huang Mao, secretly tips off Mao Zi. He tells him Bing A Dou is there. Mao Zi sends two of his guys to take him out. One of them is a mentally challenged man named Er Gou, who is promised a video game card for the job. They manage to lure Bing A Dou out of his private room. A short while later, the two assassins return to their car. They tell Mao Zi the job is done. At the same time, Tu Hongjiang gets a dispatch call about an incident at the KTV and heads that way.
