A New Murder, Same Old Suspects

The KTV Hit

The episode kicks off with Zhan Peng walking into a nasty scene at a KTV. A guy named Qian Sanshui is dead. His spine was literally snapped. That’s a rough way to go. Witnesses say a man and a woman were there before getting knocked out by masked attackers. Tu Hongjiang immediately links this to Zhan Peng’s case. The reason is simple. The victim was a drug user.

Bing A Dou's Victory Lap

We then cut to Bing A Dou and Bai Tao Hua. They're back at their place and feeling pretty good about themselves. They just closed a deal with Ba Zi Jiao's old crew. They also fill in the blanks on the KTV murder. Qian Sanshui was helping them out and took a phone call for them. That's when he got killed. They figure they were the real targets. They also believe their only enemy in this city is Hua Long. After this, we see San Ma Hu nervously reporting Qian Sanshui's death to someone called Mr. Jiang.

The Cops Make Their Moves

A Missing Phone and a New Plan

Back at the crime scene, Zhan Peng learns something interesting. The KTV manager’s phone is gone. He figures only the killer or someone in the know would bother stealing a phone during a murder. He tells Gao Buyi to track it down.

Tu Hongjiang has his own angle. He brings in Ba Zi Jiao for a chat. He connects a few dots for him. Hu Shangfei, Lu Dingzhong, and Qian Sanshui are all tied to Bing A Dou’s crew. Then he drops the bomb. He shows Ba Zi Jiao photos of his dead nephew, Qian Sanshui. Tu suggests Bing A Dou was behind it. Ba Zi Jiao gets emotional. He says the kid was a troublemaker, but he feels guilty for not looking after him.

This sparks a memory for Ba Zi Jiao. He remembers sending San Ma Hu to visit someone who wouldn't open the door. The person is a retired gangster known as the "Old Chinese Doctor." This doctor is also Sanshui's great-uncle. Since Sanshui was the only male heir in the family, Tu has an idea. He thinks telling the old man about the murder will force San Ma Hu out into the open.

The Old Doctor's Choice

A Desperate Plea

The next morning, Hu Shangfei goes to the Old Chinese Doctor's shop. He's there to get medicine for his sick father. He nervously tells the doctor that Sanshui was murdered.

At the same time, Han Xin gets a lead. The KTV killer's getaway car was a black Jetta. The license plate is a perfect match for the car spotted during that suburban operation. This means it's the same crew.

Hu Shangfei feels completely lost. He asks the doctor for advice. Right then, Bing A Dou calls. He orders Hu Shangfei to a job at a place called Jiagou that afternoon. Hu hangs up, clearly unhappy. He gives the doctor the money he earned from his last job. He says if he doesn't make it back, the money should be used for his father's medicine. The rest can go to the doctor.

A Hidden Past

After Hu Shangfei leaves, the doctor does something interesting. He opens a secret compartment behind a painting. He pulls out a sealed box and just stares at it. Just then, Tu Hongjiang shows up. He gets straight to the point. He tells the doctor that San Ma Hu is back in town and dealing drugs. He asks for his help. The doctor doesn't officially agree, but he does give him a tip. He tells him about the deal happening at Jiagou.

The Set-Up at the Station

The Swap

Things get tense at the Jiagou train station. A guy picks up a package from a hiding spot in the bathroom ceiling. As he comes out, he bumps into Lu Dingzhong. They start arguing. While they're distracted, Hu Shangfei swoops in and swaps the package. Tu Hongjiang is watching from a distance and sees the whole thing.

Later, Tu finds Lu Dingzhong and searches his bag. He finds nothing illegal. Tu realizes he was tricked. He decides to follow the original guy with the package, who is now walking in circles like he's trying to shake a tail.

The Truth Comes Out

Zhan Peng and Zhang Nanyi are working a stakeout in a parking lot. Zhang Nanyi is undercover as a security guard. But Da Gou recognizes him and sends a secret message to Mao Zi.

This is where it all unravels. Mao Zi checks his goods and realizes they've been swapped. He suddenly remembers seeing someone disguised as an old lady. The face looked familiar. He finally gets it. It was Bing A Dou. Mao Zi now understands that Bing A Dou is alive. Er Gou killed the wrong person. He's in big trouble for losing the shipment, so he runs home to figure things out with Hua Long.

It turns out, Bing A Dou got his drugs back. He proudly declares that Xiatong is his turf now. The whole plan worked because he dressed up as an old woman. He used the argument at the train station as a distraction to swap Da Gou's bag.
