Spoiler Alert

The Lawsuit Trap

This whole mess starts with a simple printing error. A factory accidentally uses Tian's ad template for Wen's company. The ad not only features the face of Tian's spokesman, "Professor Claudy," but it also uses the exact same slogan. It's a disaster. Chu Shaohua and Wen Zhiqiu scramble, working through the day and night. They manage to track down 96 of the 100 flyers that went out. But Tian Tongdao gets his hands on two of them, and that's all he needs. He immediately sues Wen Zhiqiu for infringement.

Chu Shaohua and Wen Zhiqiu try to smooth things over. They go to Tian Tongdao and explain it was a mistake by the printers. They even bring written testimony from the factory workers and the student who handed out the flyers. They offer a sincere apology and five thousand silver dollars to cover any damages.

Tian's Ridiculous Demands

Tian Tongxin, the nicer of the two brothers, tries to calm his sibling down. Tian Tongdao agrees to drop the lawsuit, but only under a few conditions. First, Wen Zhiqiu must pull his Oriental Brain Tonic from the shelves of Jujitang Pharmacy. Second, he must buy all his raw materials from Tian's pharmacy from now on. And third, he has to report his friend Xia Yuan's pharmacy for supposedly using low-quality ingredients.

Wen Zhiqiu refuses flat out. He won't betray his friend or frame him with a bogus accusation. Tian Tongdao threatens to ruin him in court. Wen Zhiqiu then turns to Chu Shaohua and tells her to make the final call. She doesn't hesitate. She tells Tian Tongdao they will never work with him and vows that their company will one day surpass his.

The Counter-Attack Begins

Back at their pharmacy, they get some welcome support. Xia Yuan sends over money to help with their legal fees. He also hires the best lawyer in Shanghai to defend them.

Wen Zhiqiu knows they will probably lose the lawsuit. But he sees a silver lining. The trial could be great publicity for their Oriental Brain Tonic. He decides their best strategy is to expose the truth about "Professor Claudy."

A Drunken Professor and a Clue

Wen Zhiqiu tracks Claudy down to a bar and finds him completely drunk. As his assistant, Huang Deming, tries to handle him, Claudy starts singing a Russian song. This is odd, since he's supposed to be an American professor. While Wen Zhiqiu observes this, Chu Shaohua calls the assistant, Huang Deming. She pretends to be an old flame, keeping him distracted on the phone long enough for Wen Zhiqiu to notice the Russian connection.

Meanwhile, Kang Erniu is visiting the Tian household. She accidentally sees Tian Tongdao firing Huang Deming. He's furious that the assistant let Claudy get drunk and that Wen Zhiqiu got close to him. Kang Erniu goes home and tells Chu Shaohua, who is stressing over the lawsuit.

The Double-Cross

The pieces start coming together. Xia Yuan brings in a man named Yang Sanye. He immediately recognizes the photo of "Claudy." He says the man is actually a Russian named Klobov who used to run a clinic and came to Shanghai to find his daughter. They have their proof. The plan is to get Huang Deming, the disgruntled ex-assistant, to testify in court.

Wen Zhiqiu finds Huang Deming drinking his sorrows away. The man quickly agrees to testify against his former boss. But this is all a setup. When Huang Deming gets home, Tian Tongdao is waiting for him. The whole thing was a trap to see if Wen Zhiqiu would take the bait.

Turning the Tables

The case goes to court. Tian's side presents Claudy's authorization letter. Wen's lawyer argues that Claudy is a fake and calls Huang Deming to the stand. But Huang Deming flips. He testifies that Claudy is absolutely the real deal and even provides his American academic records. The judge calls for a recess.

Tian Tongdao walks out of the courtroom, gloating to the press that his victory is certain. That's when Chu Shaohua steps out. She calmly invites all the reporters to a press conference. She tells them Wen Zhiqiu and Professor Claudy himself will be there to release some breaking news.

The Aftermath and The Truth

At the press conference, Wen Zhiqiu announces that he and Claudy have settled their differences. Claudy not only drops the lawsuit but also personally vouches for the effectiveness of the Oriental Brain Tonic. The story becomes front-page news. Tian Tongdao is enraged. His brother, Tian Tongxin, wants to expose Claudy as a fake. But Tian Tongdao forbids it, knowing that if the truth comes out, his own product will be worthless.

Later, Wen Zhiqiu and Chu Shaohua see Klobov off at the train station as he leaves to reunite with his daughter, Natasha. Feeling victorious, Chu Shaohua seizes the moment to demand a promotion and a raise. Wen Zhiqiu happily agrees.

When Chu Shaohua gets home, she finds Kang Erniu looking devastated. Kang Erniu finally understands that the Tian family was just using her to get at Chu Shaohua. Chu Shaohua then reveals the final piece of the puzzle. She knew it was a trap from the beginning. The moment the Tians suddenly became friendly with Kang Erniu and "accidentally" let her overhear the conversation with Huang Deming, Chu Shaohua suspected a setup. She decided to play along with Tian's game, anticipating his every move and turning his own trap against him.
