Spoiler Alert

A Doctor in the House

The team has a serious problem. The Japanese want to run a full medical workup on "Joseph Needham," who is really Ding Yi.They can't let that happen. Xian Biyun realizes the Japanese must have the real Needham's medical files. His blindness is from a tumor. They can't just blind Ding Yi. It's impossible to fake a tumor.

Gu Yangshan has an idea, though. He remembers Meng Jie, the doctor he met at the dance. He decides to ask her for help. He finds her and explains the situation. He needs her to get tomorrow's examination canceled. Meng Jie is worried. Her boss, Dr. Schwarz, never wants to upset the Japanese. She's just a student and doesn't think she can change his mind.

Faking It

Ding Yi is ready to take drastic measures. He gets his hands on poison that will permanently destroy his eyesight. Just as he's about to inject himself, Gu Yangshan rushes in and stops him. He tells him about his new plan with Meng Jie.

The next day, Meng Jie preps Ding Yi before the Japanese arrive. She's figured out a way to make his tests show dangerously high blood pressure. It works. When Dr. Schwarz sees the results, he immediately cancels the procedure. Takeda is furious and demands to know when the test can be rescheduled. Gu Yangshan steps in to handle him.

After the Japanese leave, Meng Jie admits she was terrified. She says she only did it for Gu Yangshan. She also reveals something else. She examined Ding Yi and knows he isn't actually blind. She tells Gu about a drug called Chlorpheniramine. It can dilate the pupils enough to fool an eye doctor. She knows he's up to something important, so she promises to keep his secret.

Takeda's Big Mistake

Gu Yangshan knows Takeda has been using his Navy connections without his superior's approval. He decides to use this. The plan is for Ding Yi, still playing Needham, to talk with Takeda. They know Colonel Sasaki will be listening in on the conversation.

During the talk, Ding Yi casually mentions that Takeda brought in a top Navy doctor just for him. This sends Takeda into a panic. He rushes upstairs to see Sasaki, but he's already gone. Gu Yangshan knows the plan worked. Sasaki didn't confront Takeda directly. That means he just found out about Takeda's secret dealings.

An Unlikely Allergy

There's still one more hurdle. They need to pass the eye exam. Takeda has put them under constant surveillance, so Gu Yangshan has no way to get the pupil-dilating drug from Meng Jie.

Ding Yi comes up with a wild idea. He remembers being allergic to shrimp as a kid. He asks for a plate of shrimp and eats it. Just as he predicted, he breaks out in a massive rash.

The Perfect Prescription

The allergic reaction forces the Japanese to postpone the exam until the next day. A doctor gives Ding Yi a large dose of medication to treat the rash. The medicine is Chlorpheniramine. It's the exact drug Meng Jie told them about. Now they have what they need to fake the eye exam.

The Escape

With all the pieces in place, it's time to act. The Japanese now believe "Needham" is genuinely trying to escape. They plan to catch him in the act.

Gu Yangshan and Xian Biyun have their own plan. They are going to start a fire as a diversion. This will give Ding Yi a chance to run. What they don't know is that Takeda has already set an ambush. He's waiting for them.
