The Lawsuit Gets Personal
So, the episode kicks off with the lawsuit still hanging over everyone's heads. Fang Xueqin finds out his dad, Fang Yangtian, is seriously sick. For a second, you think he might back off. But his associate, Dong Youwei, gets in his ear. He warns that if Xueqin drops the case, all the family money will go to Lin Cheng. That's all it takes. Xueqin decides to push forward with suing his own father.
Meanwhile, Jiang Huanqiu has to tell Fang Yangtian the bad news. She confesses that his medical report has been leaked. And Fang Xueqin has it. You can just see the weight of that landing on him.
A Secret Daughter and a Brother's Threat
Things get complicated over on Lin Cheng's side of the story. He walks into a KTV and finds his brother, Lin Yao, with a girl named Jasmine. Lin Yao is being shady. He claims he's trying to help Lin Cheng and Fang Yangtian.
Then Kwong Shan Tsuen shows up in a panic. Jasmine is her daughter, and she's been looking for her everywhere. Lin Cheng is not happy with his brother for threatening her. But Lin Yao doesn't care. He drops a bomb. Jasmine is Kwong Shan Tsuen's illegitimate daughter. He even has a strand of her hair and threatens a DNA test. The whole thing is about to explode. Lin Cheng has to physically hold his brother back so Kwong Shan Tsuen can grab Jasmine and get out of there.
Blackmail, Betrayal, and a Boat Fight
This is where it gets really dirty. Gao Shen decides to use this secret to his advantage. He goes to Fang Xueli, who is Kwong Shan Tsuen's husband. Gao Shen threatens to expose Jasmine as an illegitimate child to stop the lawsuit against Fang Yangtian. He even lies and says Jasmine's father is a drug dealer. He knows a scandal like that would destroy Fang Xueli's career.
Fang Xueli goes home and completely loses it. He slaps Kwong Shan Tsuen and demands to know the truth about Jasmine. She breaks down and begs him to forgive her. But he's devastated. He tells her he regrets ever marrying her.
Later, Fang Xueqin finds his brother Fang Xueli on a boat. He's gloating and waving their father's medical report around. He thinks he has the winning card. But Fang Xueli snatches it, tears it to shreds, and throws it into the sea. He tells his brother he's being blackmailed over Kwong Shan Tsuen's secret daughter. Fang Xueqin is furious that his "perfect case" is ruined. They get into a heated argument. During the fight, Fang Xueqin accidentally falls into the water. Fang Xueli immediately jumps in and saves him. Even after that, he begs his brother to drop the lawsuit, but Xueqin refuses.
The Courtroom Stunner
Back at home, the family is in pieces. Kwong Shan Tsuen is heartbroken. She reveals she can no longer have children and can't bear to lose Jasmine. She and Fang Xueli start living in separate rooms. Even the family matriarch, Old Mrs. Fang, tells Fang Xuexian she's done with the fighting and just wants her family back together.
The trial starts again. Fang Xueqin seems determined to go through with it. His lawyer presents the medical report as evidence against his father. But then, something shifts. Fang Xueqin suddenly has a flashback to his childhood. He remembers a time his father fiercely protected him after an accident. He realizes his father has always loved him.
Right there in the courtroom, he changes his story. He tells the judge he knew about his father's illness the whole time. Then he throws his own lawyer under the bus. He claims the lawyer told him to lie and frame his father. The trial comes to a screeching halt. The lawyer, furious, packs up his team and leaves.
