The Inevitable End of Han Gang
A Predator's Last Act
So, Han Gang is in the hospital. A nurse comes into his room to change his bandages. His goons know the drill. They make themselves scarce. He then assaults the nurse. It's just who he is.
His brother, Han Lie, shows up later. He sees the fresh scratches on Han Gang's face. He knows exactly what happened. Han Lie isn't happy about it. He tells his men to give the nurse extra money as compensation.
Han Gang is still completely sold on the "priest's" advice. He refuses all his medicine. He thinks his violent acts are what make him feel better. It's twisted.
The Priest's Justice
The next day, Han Gang heads to the church. He feels confident. His bodyguards try to go inside with him. He tells them to wait outside. He thinks it’s overkill. He walks into the church alone.
Inside, Qin Yu is waiting. He's disguised as the priest again. He catches Han Gang completely off guard. And then he kills him. Just like that.
The Fallout and the Alibi
A Clean Crime Scene
Han Lie rushes to the police station. He sees his brother's body. He's completely broken. He was just joking with him at the hospital that morning. Now he's gone.
The police find nothing at the crime scene. The killer wiped it down completely. The only piece of evidence is a drink bottle. It was used to drug the real priest. Han Lie has to pull himself together. He calls his father, Han Kui Long, to tell him the news. The shock makes Han Kui Long collapse on the spot.
Qin Yu's Perfect Alibi
That night, Qin Yu walks into a coffee shop. He acts frantic. He tells the owner he lost his ring. The owner finds it for him right on the counter. This is important. It's his alibi.
Over at the hospital, the real priest finally wakes up. He talks to the detective, Tang Xuan. He explains the drugged drink was his own. But he also remembers something else. A man called him into the confessional. The priest remembers his face clearly. A sketch artist draws the man. It's a picture of Qin Yu wearing a mask.
Tang Xuan immediately puts a tail on Qin Yu. But Qin Yu is smart. He knows he's being followed. He goes straight to the police station. He complains directly to Tang Xuan about being stalked. Tang Xuan shows him the sketch. She insists it's him. Qin Yu is calm. He says a drawing of someone's eyes isn't real evidence. You can't convict him with just that. Later, Tang Xuan checks his alibi. The coffee shop owner confirms Qin Yu was there.
The Cat and Mouse Game Begins
Han Lie's Warning
Qin Yu visits his son, Yi Wei, in prison again. Yi Wei looks at his dad's face. He can tell the problem has been handled.
But when Qin Yu gets home, he finds a message. Taped to his door is the police sketch of him in the mask. Next to it is a photo of his son, Yi Wei. Qin Yu gets it. Han Lie knows he killed Han Gang. That night, thugs show up. They smash his car and the windows of his house. They also go to the judge's house to intimidate him. The media is all over it the next day. Councilor Huang even shows up to offer the judge his "support."
Qin Yu starts to worry. If they're coming after him this hard, his son isn't safe in prison. Councilor Huang tries to reassure him. He calls the prison warden right there in front of Qin Yu. The warden promises that Yi Wei will be protected.
A Powerful Intervention
Han Lie isn't finished. He has his men kidnap Qin Yu. They drag him to Han Gang's memorial. They force him to kneel. Han Lie is about to get his revenge.
Suddenly, Councilor Huang walks in. He says he's there to pay his respects. But he's really there for Qin Yu. He shows Han Lie a symbol on his hand. It's a spade. Han Lie recognizes it. His father told him about it. Anyone who shows that symbol must be obeyed.
Councilor Huang explains the situation. Qin Yu is a critical piece of a much larger plan. He's just as important as their father, Han Kui Long. Nothing can happen to him. Han Lie has no choice. He has to let Qin Yu go.
Digging Up the Past
A New Lead in an Old Case
Han Lie tells his father what happened with Councilor Huang. But Han Kui Long is consumed by grief. He doesn't care about the big plan anymore. He tells Han Lie to get revenge for his brother, no matter what.
Meanwhile, the other detective, Shi Zhi Yang, finds a man named Liu Mao. Liu Mao finally cracks. He admits the person who went to jail for that old crime wasn't the real killer. He says the real murderer was a tall man.
Shi Zhi Yang goes back to the archives. He pulls the file for the 1978 Hu Yan shantytown fire. As he looks through the documents, he finds a new name. Qin Yu was one of the judges in the original trial.
The Walls Start Closing In
Shi Zhi Yang goes home. He tells Tang Xuan what he found. He wants to question Qin Yu about the old case.
The next day, he visits Qin Yu's house. He asks about the fire case from 1978. Qin Yu plays dumb. He says it was too long ago. He can't remember any details. He quickly ends the conversation.
But someone was watching. Shi Zhi Yang's boss finds out he's digging into the fire case. His superior offers him a promotion. The condition is that he drops the investigation. Shi Zhi Yang now understands. He's being followed, and his own superiors are involved in the cover-up.
