Qin Yu manipulates his apprentice and the police to cover up his son's involvement in a hit-and-run. His family life unravels as he clashes with his mother-in-law and fails to connect with his son. Qin Yu Plays His Cards
Qin Yu goes to see his apprentice, Luo Wen. He acts all concerned about her latest court case. It's a smooth move. He uses the opportunity to ask about her client, Ma Shanbao. Qin Yu admits he has some history with Ma Shanbao's uncle, A Wei. He lays it on thick. He says Ma Shanbao's stolen car was used to hit Han Gang. He asks Luo Wen to help the guy out. He knows just how to frame it. Luo Wen senses Ma Shanbao isn't a bad person. She thinks it over and agrees to keep representing him. Qin Yu gets exactly what he wants.
A Cop's Missing Notebook
Tang Xuan isn't letting things go. She finds shredded paper in the car. She starts investigating and finds similar paper shreds elsewhere. Qin Yu sees this and immediately throws her off the scent. He casually suggests a police officer might have dropped it during the search. It's a simple lie, but it works.
So, Tang Xuan starts comparing the handwriting of every officer. She finally finds the cop who moved Yiwei's car that night. The officer confesses. He lost his duty notebook. Tang Xuan is furious. She grills him about why he never reported it missing. She points out it was found inside a car linked to a hit-and-run. The cop gets defensive. He accuses her of being biased against people from the old district. He even thinks she suspects him of knowing a couple of local guys, Qi Changrong and Ma Shanbao.

A Tense Visit from Grandma
Yiwei’s grandmother finds out he skipped class. She storms over to Qin Yu’s house that night. She is not happy. She demands to know if Qin Yu knew about it. She even thinks Yiwei has psychological problems and wants to find him a therapist. Qin Yu is sitting on the couch. He thinks she's overreacting about one missed day of school. He says so.
This pushes his mother-in-law over the edge. Her eyes get red. She tells him if he hadn't been so careless with his family, her daughter would still be alive. Ouch. They argue back and forth. The tension is thick. The visit does not end well.
A Son Pushes Back
Qin Yu buys his son, Yiwei, a new car. He takes him to get a student driver sticker for it. Along the way, he tries to give him a fatherly talk. He tells Yiwei he needs to learn to handle life's ups and downs. Later, Qin Yu tells Yiwei he regrets arguing with his grandmother. He tries to make up for his absence as a father. He offers to take Yiwei to the movies and buy him shoes. Yiwei is cold. He just shuts him down.
The Walls Start Closing In
An Interrogation and a Threat
Tang Xuan brings Ma Shanbao in for questioning. She tries to get information out of him with casual conversation. But Ma Shanbao is smart. He knows not to talk without his lawyer, Luo Wen. He stays completely silent.
Luo Wen tries to see her client but gets blocked. A different cop then goes to Ma Shanbao. He tells him the car he "stole" hit Han Gang. Han Gang is the son of a major gangster, Han Kuilong. Ma Shanbao starts shaking. He is terrified. But even with the cop's threats, he doesn't say a word.
Luo Wen finds A Wei. She tells him Ma Shanbao was beaten in jail. His wife can sue as his legal guardian. This sends A Wei straight to Qin Yu. He wants to know why Qin Yu had the car dismantled in the first place. Qin Yu lies again. He claims he was speeding and the car's inspection was expired. He says it would have been terrible for his career.
A Key Piece of Evidence
The investigation gets leaked to the press. Luckily, a reporter recognizes the car belongs to Qin Yu's mother-in-law and kills the story. She shows up at Qin Yu's house. He lies again, saying he had to buy a new car because the old one was part of an investigation. They get into another huge fight about his dead wife and Yiwei.
Later, Tang Xuan gets home. Her husband, Shi Zheyang, made dinner. He also gives her something important. It's an asthma inhaler he found at the scene of Han Gang's accident.
A Desperate Phone Call
Yiwei is at school, drinking. He's a mess over his mom's death and the accident. His coach finds him and tries to talk him down. Qin Yu comes to pick up his drunk son. In the car, he asks Yiwei if he has his asthma inhaler.
Yiwei snaps to attention. He realizes he must have dropped it at the scene. They race back to find it. But then Qin Yu gets a call. The police have new evidence. They are running DNA tests on it. Qin Yu and Yiwei have to leave.
The episode ends with Qin Yu at a payphone. He makes a call. He says he knows who hit Han Gang.
