Fifteen Years Later, Same Problems
A Son Pays the Price
We jump forward to 2021. Fang Jianwei, now a police chief, is in a meeting. He mentions that a specific batch of drugs, the "B drug," is still missing. This was from a deal between Mou Haidong and a man named Liu Libo.
Then we see Liu Libo in action. He’s not playing around. He has Mou Haidong’s second son, Mou Lang, tied up. He demands to know where the drugs are. Mou Lang insists he knows nothing. So, Liu Libo cuts off his finger. It’s a clear and brutal message for his father.
Mou Sen Is Back in Town
Mou Haidong’s other son, Mou Sen, secretly returns to the city of Nanzhou. The first thing he sees is his own wanted poster. He immediately makes a phone call.
Back in prison, Mou Haidong sees a video of his son being tortured. This gives him an idea. He starts a fight on purpose and injures himself. It’s a ploy to get a transfer to a hospital outside the prison. At the same time, Mou Sen gets in touch with Liu Libo. He tells him to stop going after his family.
The Hunt Goes Digital
The Wizard's Account
An officer named Zhi An makes a discovery. She finds Mou Haidong's old video game account from a game called 709. The account name is "Wizard." It’s loaded with a huge amount of virtual currency. The police realize this could be a major lead. They pull a team together to investigate.
A Gamer Joins the Case
Zhi An has a friend named Duo Zai. They had plans to play the game together that night. They actually pass each other in the game but don't recognize their avatars. The police ask Duo Zai for his help. They want him to investigate the "mastermind" who was in contact with Mou Haidong.
Duo Zai is all in. He even uses his own money to buy fancy in-game gear. The goal is to bait the mastermind. He quickly figures out the target is loaded. Their gear is top-tier. Duo Zai mistakenly thinks the person they're investigating is Zhi An's boyfriend. He seems pretty relieved when he finds out it's just a case. His friend teases him, saying he’s getting a crush on a girl he met online.
The Failed Meetup
The mastermind suddenly messages Zhi An. She poses as a buyer and sets up a meeting. Her boss, Luo Zhongkui, arranges for plainclothes officers to provide backup.
The next day, Zhi An goes to the designated spot in disguise. But it's a wild goose chase. The mastermind makes her move from one location to another. We see that the killer is watching her the entire time.
Desperate Moves
Blood and Opportunity
Mou Haidong wakes up in the hospital. He has a rare blood type. The police put out a public call for blood donors.
Mou Sen sees this as his chance. He goes to the hospital pretending to be a donor. While there, he sees his own name on the official list of people who donated. His identity is now in the police system. After the drive, Luo Zhongkui speculates that the drug cook might have been one of the donors.
Zhi An returns to the station. She’s frustrated that she never met the mastermind. Luo Zhongkui tells her to start reviewing all the surveillance footage from the locations she was sent to.
An Old Flame
Mou Sen needs to get his own operation running. He goes to a man called Du Ye to propose a partnership. But Du Ye isn't interested unless Mou Sen can provide a much larger quantity of product.
So, Mou Sen goes to his backup plan. He finds a woman named Mai Jiamin. It’s clear they have a history. He asks if he can use her pharmacy to cook drugs. She is furious. She slaps him and accuses him of only coming back to use her. He apologizes and says he will leave her alone. Her anger fades, and she gives in. He can use the pharmacy.
