Spoiler Alert
A Walk in the Woods Goes Wrong
The Magical Maze
So, the episode kicks off with Ming Yi and her master, She Tianlin. They're heading to Zhangwei Mountain. This place is not your average hiking spot. It’s immediately covered in a thick, magical fog. You know what that means.
They get trapped. It’s one of those classic "ghost wall" situations. They walk and walk but just end up right back where they started. It’s frustrating. They decide to split up to cover more ground and find a way out.
Ming Yi gets a sudden flash of inspiration. She pulls out the first volume of Bo's Medical Manual. She opens it. Just like that, the fog pulls back like a tide going out. Problem solved. For about five seconds.
A Familiar Face
The moment the fog clears, Ji Bozai drops out of the sky. He immediately goes on the "attack." I say "attack" because it was clearly a test. Her magical weapon, the Ember, is broken. But it still instinctively moves to protect her.
That’s all the proof Ji Bozai needed. He knows for sure it's her. He starts grilling her for answers. This time, Ming Yi is done with the secrets. She decides not to hide anything from him anymore. She confesses everything.
The Guardian and the Valley
Meeting the Gatekeeper
Their heart-to-heart gets interrupted. An ancient mythical beast, the Candle Dragon, shows up. It takes the form of a little girl, which is somehow even more unsettling. This kid is no joke. She moves like lightning. She zips over and scratches Ji Bozai’s arm. She needs a drop of his blood for a test.
His blood doesn't have the Bo family magic. So, he fails the test. As a result, the Candle Dragon traps both him and Ming Yi. They're stuck in a magically sealed valley.
A Fake Faint and a Real Connection
Ji Bozai collapses. Ming Yi completely panics. She rushes over to start healing him, clearly worried sick. But guess what? He was faking it. He just wanted to see if she still cared. A bit dramatic, but it worked.
He sees the Sorrow Flower mark on her wrist. It seems like he’s finally starting to get it. He's beginning to understand why she did what she did. He feels for her. In a surprisingly tender moment, he pulls out a scallion pancake and gives it to her. She hasn't eaten in a while. It’s a quiet, sweet scene between them.
Secrets of the Bo Family
Entering the Ancestral Home
While they're trapped, She Tianlin finds the Candle Dragon. He knows he can't get into the Bo family's ancestral home himself. He begs the dragon to at least meet Ming Xian. That's Ming Yi's real name. He insists she is the only person left who is qualified to enter.
The dragon is intrigued. She appears in the valley and takes a drop of Ming Yi's blood. This time, she gets the signal she was looking for. The blood has the right magic. She immediately frees them. She opens a portal to the ancestral home but only allows Ming Yi to pass. Ji Bozai is left outside.
Inside, Ming Yi sees the ghostly phantoms of two women. They are the Bo sisters, Yulan and Yuzen. We learn their spirits can remain here because people still worship their portraits.
A Message from the Past
Bo Yulan hears that Ji Bozai is right outside. She says she is too ashamed to face him. Instead, she gives Ming Yi a cryptic message to pass along. She tells her that the truth is, and always has been, right in front of him. But this truth is so ugly and cruel that discovering it could shatter his trust in the world.
She doesn't explain any further. She hands over the second volume of the medical manual to Ming Yi. After Ming Yi swears a solemn oath, Bo Yulan sends her back out.
The Villains Are Watching
This whole time, Situ Ling and Fu Yue have been hiding in the shadows. They saw everything. They connect the dots. Ming Yi must be a living descendant of the Bo family.
Their boss, Chao Heng, gets the news and he is delighted. He gives two orders. First, find out everything about Ming Yi's past. Second, he tells Situ Ling to get that medical manual, no matter what it takes.
Chao Heng's master plan is coming into focus. He needs the manual to create two powerful items. One is called "Fleeting Dream." The other is "Heaven of Parting Sorrow." He needs these to activate something called the "Devouring Heaven Array." This array will give him control over all Six Realms.
A Tense Return
An Impossible Cure
On the journey back, She Tianlin combines the two volumes of the medical manual. He finally sees the full recipes. The news is not good. The ingredients are all ridiculously rare. One of them, the "Diwu Wood Heart," is the most important. It's also believed to have been extinct for ten thousand years.
She Tianlin also notices the scratch on Ji Bozai's arm is poisoned. It's from the Candle Dragon's magic. He steps in and heals the wound for him.
Mending Fences
Once they're all back at Jixing Yuan, Ming Yi delivers Bo Yulan's strange message to Ji Bozai. The whole ordeal seems to have brought them closer. They finally make peace with each other. Ji Bozai even repairs the Ember for her. It's a touching gesture, and she is clearly moved.
Their conversation is overheard by Bu Xiu. This is how he learns that his friend, Twenty-Seven, was killed. The news hits him hard.
Later that night, Situ Ling pays Ming Yi a visit. He offers to help her find the rare ingredients for "Fleeting Dream." She politely refuses his help. She's smart enough to be suspicious. Undeterred, Situ Ling goes to her master. He presses She Tianlin for information. Her master reveals that the "Diwu Wood Heart" is the true key to the cure. Situ Ling is stunned. He secretly decides he will find this impossible ingredient for Ming Yi. His intentions are anything but pure.
