Episode Summary
In this episode, Chen Jun's attempt to kill Shen Yang is stopped by Chen Hansheng and Lei Peng. As a result, Zhou Tianna scrambles to cover her tracks by blaming Chen Jun. We also learn about Chen Hansheng's tragic past when his high-ranking grandfather comes to visit him in the hospital.

A Hospital Visit Goes Sideways
Chen Hansheng is stuck recovering in the hospital. It would be a total drag, but his friend Lei Peng stops by. He brings some barbecue skewers with him. The two of them sneak into the hallway to eat. It’s a nice moment until Lei Peng realizes he forgot to get Shen Yang. He feels bad for not sharing with a friend. Then his stomach starts acting up. He tells Chen Hansheng to take the food to Shen Yang's room. He says he will join them in a bit.
The Attack on Shen Yang
Chen Hansheng gets to Shen Yang's room and knocks. No one answers. He peeks through the small window on the door. He sees Shen Yang is in serious trouble.
Inside, Chen Jun is disguised as a doctor. He's trying to inject Shen Yang with some unknown drug. She wakes up halfway through the attack. She recognizes him and starts to fight back. Chen Hansheng bursts into the room just in time. He gets into a fight with Chen Jun. But Chen Hansheng is still injured from before. He's not strong enough to take Chen Jun on. Just as he's losing, Lei Peng shows up. He manages to subdue Chen Jun. The police arrive and take Chen Jun away.
A Very Specific Punishment
Qiu Tian and Ling Zhengrong hear the news and rush to the hospital. They split up to check on everyone. Ling Zhengrong is relieved that Lei Peng and Chen Hansheng are not seriously hurt. He tells them that taking down a criminal is exactly what a soldier should do. But he also says sneaking around eating barbecue at night is not. So, he gives them a punishment. They each have to write a 10,000-word self-criticism report.
Lei Peng has no idea how to write something that long. Chen Hansheng feels he owes Lei Peng for saving his life. He offers to write the report for him. This is a problem for Chen Hansheng. He hasn't even finished the lastself-criticism report he was assigned.
The Aftermath and Shifting Alliances
Qiu Tian goes to see Shen Yang. Shen Yang tells her everything she knows. She says she always suspected Chen Jun wanted to harm her. Now she is certain. The only thing she doesn't know is if her aunt is the one pulling the strings behind him.
Zhou Tianna's Damage Control
Before visiting Shen Yang, Zhou Tianna calls Zhuang He. The company is now under investigation because of Chen Jun's arrest. To save the business, she plans to cooperate fully. She's going to pin everything on Chen Jun. She knows what Zhuang He wants. She promises him a huge reward if he does exactly what she says.
When Zhou Tianna finally sees Shen Yang, she changes the subject. She encourages Shen Yang to think about studying abroad. She talks about how she and Shen Yang's mother went abroad and it opened their eyes. She hopes Shen Yang will do the same.
A Family Secret Comes to Light
Zhang Lan also visits Chen Hansheng at the hospital. He confirms Chen Hansheng is okay and then leaves. Zhang Lan's wife is already making plans for his retirement from the military. He seems ready to go home and run a chicken farm with her.
The Grandfather Arrives
Chen Hansheng's grandfather travels to Yuehai. He heard his grandson was in the hospital and came to see him. Qiu Tian and Ling Zhengrong are assigned to greet him. Qiu Tian notices Ling Zhengrong is acting a little strange. She learns the grandfather is a high-ranking official, a deputy regional commander. Ling Zhengrong doesn't seem surprised by this at all. He also doesn't offer any explanation.
The grandfather gets settled in at a guest house. Then he goes straight to the hospital. He is relieved to see Chen Hansheng is alright. He says that for a soldier, getting injured or even making the ultimate sacrifice is just part of the job.
Chen Hansheng's Past
On the way back to the guest house, Qiu Tian asks the grandfather about Chen Hansheng's family. She realizes she knows nothing about his background. The grandfather tells her the truth. Chen Hansheng is the son of a man named Chen Weiguo. Both of his parents died when he was young. He had a very difficult childhood.
Ling Zhengrong cuts Qiu Tian off. He tells her not to ask the old man any more questions. He promises to explain everything to her later. After a few days, the grandfather prepares to leave. He visits Chen Hansheng one last time. He tells him to always do his duty as a soldier, but to make sure he protects himself too.
